Just kidding, but that is what exploding hinges look like. One question, do I get a new LCD with the hinges? It looks like the LCD is damaged near the bottom left of the screen on the same side as the broken hinge. I am on a little trip so I will call it in to Dell once I get back.

I think in repair videos I have seen they sent out a whole new screen as well...

Well thank you kind sir! I was reading a thread earlier about replacing the LCD and questionably getting new hinges. I figured my new thread was acceptable since I am requesting the opposite.

They give you another screen that is already attached to the hinges, but I remember Chris mentioning that it is a refurbished panel. I doubt the screen quality would be less even though it's refurbished.

Dont worry, If you still under warranty they will send you a tech. to repair your LCD (They will replace the whole LCD)
If you are not under warranty, you will have to send it to Dell, so they can fix it.
    Good Luck :)

I'm out of warranty by ten days but I believe people who are out of warranty get one on site repair right?

What you get is a replacement LCD assembly with the updated design that R3s ship with. Usually refurbished.

That includes hinges, the display, webcam, protective screen and bezel, rear lid element (this is what's really breaking with "hinge failures"), wifi aerials and possible WWAN aerials if your original configuration had the option WWAN card.

The massive hinge failure thread has part numbers for the old and new LCD assemblies based on color and WWAN options.

Yes, that's what Dell has stated. Let us know if they give you and flak about that. If they do, then contact Chris Mixon over on the Alienware Owners Club forums and he should be able to sort it out.

EDIT: Actually, I misread your question. I'm not sure if on-site is still available to you if your warranty has run out. May have to send it in.
