There is a black sticker with your service tag and Express Service Code attached at the bottom of your laptop. The sticker should be on the same panel as the fan. The problem is that the writing on the black sticker can be rubbed off fairly easily. Even from the lightest touch, be it intentionally or accidentally, it will rub off. For those who still have visible writings, write that down ASAP and store it somewhere safe. Alternatively, upon obtaining the laptop, you can take a picture of it and store it in your laptop.
For those who's tag # has already been rubbed off, fortunately, with a little effort, the number can still be seen if you hold your laptop in a slant position against a strong light source. Do not wait until the last minute! Write it down ASAP!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a picture of that and my microsoft proof of licence since I've had those wear off on me before too. I'll store it with my restore disk.

It should also be in the bios as well as your invoice. I added mine to my account on dell so its always there.

Why is this getting bumped? I got like 4 extra stickers with my service tag + the one on the bottom is still there, unscratched.... (+ the fact that you can just find it in BIOS !
)
-
Yeah, mine is still pristine on the bottom of the system as well and I am anal and clean the system quite often. Perhaps there was just a bad ink run on some systems?
-
Or you could just go to support.dell.com and hit the button that says find my service tag for me- works fine on my m11x.
-
Imagine if the service tag was metal.. or would that be a bad thing?
-
i laminated mine with a big piece of clear protector at the bottom. so that It wouldn't wore off or get scratched.
-
Mine seems to be on there pretty good. I tried rubbing it and nothing. And it's been over a month and a half now that I've had it.
-
-
i took thge stickers off and put them in my little notebook for all that info... also keep some info on my phone just to be safe
-
I took a picture

If memory serves, this issue was resolved. There was a problem with the process they were using when printing these labels. Regardless, old issue - resolved. if its still an issue, create a new thread.
