I know autocad is both processor intensive and videocard intensive but im just starting to use autocad and not really doing any big heavy designs.

But, I cannot get autocad to work on my m11x R2. The 32bit version of autocad doesn't let you install it on a 64bit system , and the 64 bit version just doesnt run, it loads but the second i try to click on a task or sometihng it freezes and windows closes the program.

Yes I added the autocad to the optimus whitelist and i have my laptop OC to 150 Mhz.

Is autocad just to intensive to run on this little beast????? :(

    i doubt it.

you may want to try some autodesk forums tho. ive had random issues with Acad at work that where odd like that and almost always someone else can help or has a fix for your issue.

Ive gotten autocad to run on a pentium 4 with intel graphics and my old laptop with 2ghz dual core intel graphics, so im sure the m11x can run it no problem. First thing try reinstalling and make sure you have everything else installed that is needed (.net framework 3.5+ or anything else)

    This.

I was able to run Autocad on a similarly crappy laptop. Solidworks is what gave me trouble. Most of the time it would crash the computer after 30 minutes.

    I agree with bavman.

I work with AutoCAD day in and out, it's not a very intensive program, so long as you're not trying to render a scene or build a ton of 3d objects (in which case you're probably using 3dsMax anyway.) I've gotten it to work just fine on an older laptop with a GMA 900. That being said, it can be a real buggy beast depending on your config and what version of CAD you're using.

I will say that the 2010 version of Architectural Desktop (not sure if this goes for vanilla cad) is bloated. They implemented a version of MS' ribbon interface which seems to bog down my system to no end. If i minimize it i seem to be fine though.

As others have said.....AutoCAD isn't very intensive. I use it every day as well.

I even have it installed on a netbook. :p Works just fine unless you're working with very large files.

I had it installed on my R1 & it worked fine for me. The only downside is the small screen size. Some of the in-program prompts are just a hair too large & I had to hide my taskbar to be able to click the "okay" button @ the bottom of the dialog.

    thanks for all your responses!

Then something must be wrong with my configuration cause i had just reformatted, installed all the right drivers, direct x files, and .net files.

Autocad just wont run. It loads and immediately crashes when i click file, or tools, or anything in the toolbar.

I'm going to have to contact autodesk then

Not that i'll be able to help, but what version of AutoCAD are you using? Also, is there a service pack available for that version?

It might also be worth trying it without the overclock.

When you installed AutoCAD, did it also install all the other components you need? (Framework, etc)

Also, as said above, make sure you have all the service packs & hotfixes. Using any peripherals? One time, we had this nasty crash on one of our workstations every 2 hours or so.....like clockwork. It ended up being the 3dconnexion 3d mouse causing it. :S Once we updated the drivers for the mouse the crashes stopped. o_O

I'm using autocad 2011 64-bit. Yes it installs all the necessary file that I needed. When I install it it even prompts me to install an update to autocad and I do it.

I am going to try and install it again but without the overclock to see if it makes any difference. I doubt it could be the overclock but I could be wrong.

Oh, and I don't have peripherals attached to the computer when I was opening it.

Yeah, sounds like you'll need to ask autodesk.

If you're on a subscription, you can directly submit a support request to them.

As Arak-Nafein said above, try it without the overclock.

Also, see if it's using the intel graphics or the nvidia. This might have been mentioned above; you might have to add CAD to the nvidia whitelist though niether graphics card should be giving you trouble. The only reason i'm even inclined to look towards the video card is that it's crashing when you click on the toolbars.

Are you installing from a disk or a download from them? The only thing i can think of is that your download/disk might be defective in someway and its not installing fully so the software doesnt run. So you might try redownloading, but your best bet would be to get a hold of their support.
