Perhaps try turning off the CPU overclock and see if it fixes it. Also you could check out this program called whocrashed which will analyze the dump file and tell you what happened.
-
Thanks... I ran that program and it points to the Nvidia Windows Kernal Mode Driver that is causing the crashes. It also did show multiple crashes from hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe
Any ideas???? -
hmmm.. did you try cleaning up the windows registry a bit with programs like Ccleaner? also i would try and run memtest86 from a flash drive to test the memory. let it run for about a half hour. also, a fresh install of windows could help.
-
I had a similar issue with my M15x, and just rolled back the Nvidia driver to an earlier version, until a newer version came out (basically skipped the problematic one). Good luck!

I have a clean install of Windows 7 OS due to a faulty MB with a bad graphics card. have clean install of latest Dell 335M driver from Dell. Will try a Reg cleaner and let ya know

I have a Clean install of the latest Dell 335M driver. Wont let me roll back. -
EDIT: you could try the 260.99 hybrid driver set also. and another thing you could do is hold the windows key and press R, then type cmd, then hit enter. then when in command prompt type "chkdsk /f" (without the quotations) and hit enter. . it should repair any windows file corruptions if there are any. i tend to think it could be the memory tho
-
dont understand how the memory could be the issue if the Whocrashed report pointed at the Nvidia Windows Kernal Mode Driver as the cause of the crashes.
Trying to figure out how to run memtest. I DLed it and burned it to a DVD. How do I run it? -
ok, do you have an external dvd drive? if you dont you can use the flash drive installer version, but if you burned it to a dvd and have an external drive, just boot from the dvd
and if its not the ram, that pretty much points to the nvidia driver. thats why i suggested the hacked 260.99 driver here in the forums -
-
Did this start recently, as in after you did something to your computer, ie: turned on the overclock, installed the new nvidia drivers.
You might want to try redownloading the drivers off of the website and reinstalling them in safe mode. Also, it may be your cpu overclock so try turning it off. -
well ran memtest86 0 problems with mem and fdisk with 0 errors. Looks like its back to the Nvidia Driver issue. -
-
-
-
yes it could be the drivers, ...or, your cpu isnt stable overclocked. try turning it off and see if you get those bsod's still
-
-
-
alright.. 1 last thing. try going to discrete mode in the bios and installing the newest nvidia drivers directly from nvidia. just so we can rule out its drivers
-
-
-
yeah i know you dont want to run only on nvidia, but this is just a test to see if it is the drivers
-
ok, did a clean install of the latest driver from dell after I deleted the old one and started the laptop in safe mode with a new download after the old files were deleted. Lets see what happens.
-
Well I did a clean install in Safe Mode and I am still getting BSOD's
-
Did you try the old driver (197.72) again? Also, did you already revert the overclock of the CPU?
-
Did have the problem with overclock on and with it off.
I have used the older 197.72 driver and did not have the problem from what I noticed. But honestly dont remember. What is the difference between the 263.08 and the 197.72 drivers?
I have not yet tried to use the older driver again. -
The difference between the 197.72 and 263.08 is that the 263.08 has some better performance in some games, some general improved code and CUDA/OpenCl support (I think that was added after 197.72). I mean, if you never had any problems with 197.72 then there really isn't much need to upgrade. I am generally of the belief with drivers that if it ain't broke don't fix it, because sometimes it just causes trouble, but other people are more of the belief that newer is generally better. -
ForceWare 197.72 has CUDA and OpenCL ticked in GPU-z. Haven't tried using them though.
-
-
Well just did a clean install now of the 197.72 drivers... lets see what happens now.
-
ok, I am running a clean install of Nvidia driver 197.72 I am still getting BSOD's about once or twice a day. However I am not longer getting BSOD's for the Nvidia driver. Now when I pull the crash report is states that it is for hal.dll (hal+0x12A3B) that is causing the problem.
I did some reading up on hal.dll and from what I have noticed all the articles say that windows 7 does not have hal.dll Only Vista and XP have the hal.dll in the OS. If this is true and there has never been Vista or XP on this machine and I have had a clean install of Windows 7. Why is this happening and how do I fix it??
Any ideas on this one???
