Hi, I own a R1, unfortunatly just out of warranty.

MY battery has degraded considerably, Battery Bar is showing 60.1% wear, and windows is advising me to replace the battery.

Only problem is, I cannnot seem to find one. I believe the Dell part number is PT6V8.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a UK supplier, or an alternative part number, perhaps from another computer that uses the same battery.

Also there is nothing on ebay.

By the way, this problem occured suddenly, it was not a gradual thing. It went from fine to 60.1% wear over night. Anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks

Are you sure about your warranty being up? The first R1s should have a little more time left on their 1yr.

I don't think that matters. Go to the Dell site, enter the service tag, and it should tell you how much warranty is left.

Just tried that, and according to Dell, my M11X R1 is an OptiPlex GX280 with 0 days of warranty!

Where do I go from here?

Call Alienware (not Dell) customer service. Explain the situation to them. Your battery should have a 1-year warranty on it that covers defect. And your situation sounds like a defect.

    OK. Phoned them.

Spoke to a knowledgeable guy, he is aware it should be under warranty, ie all R1's are still under one year old, however my warranty is with the shisters I bought the machine and not Dell.

He was able to sell the battery to me however, which is pretty good.

My plan now is to go back to the company I purchased it from, and give them one more chance. If they still refuse to fix it, then I will purchase from Dell and retrieve the cost in the county court. (where we in the UK can sue people for relatively small sums)

I have deffo learnt my lesson about third party sellers for this sort of kit. When I upgrade to the new model in september/october this year it will come directly from Dell/Alienware.

140GBP inc taxes and postage, with a one year warranty. Ill monitor the wear closely and claim for a replacement at the 10 month mark if needed, if I sell before as is the plan, then the new buyer will have this benefit
