Im no longer on the guarantee but my friend told me the battery and the hinge were guaranteed for life... is that true?

I changed the hinge for my screen twice already... and the battery lasts 30minutes at most...

iirc battery only covered for 12 months, and you get one free out of warranty hinge fix if it has not already been done.

    Regards.

No. Battery and hinges ARE NOT guaranteed for life, That would be something crazy... Like someone said before, you have just 1 free hinge fix out of warranty, no more.... IN R1 and R2...

You must buy a new battery, no way to ask for a free replacement...

No they are not guaranteed for life, and i can actually guarantee you that you will NEVER find a laptop manufacturer who gives you a lifetime warranty on the battery. It is a consumable, it is constantly deteriorating, even sitting on the warehouse shelf the batteries are slowly discharging, they are not going to give you another one everytime you need it.

The hinge issue was due to a design flaw in the R1 & R2 hinge. Once they "fixed" it though, they replaced the entire lid & hinge to the new revision (hinge used in the R3) which does not break. So if it breaks once they've already replaced the faulty components, then that means the user is at fault and not Dell as they did their part and covered the preventative maintenance.

Honestly, if it breaks 4 times, you're simply not treating it properly. I've had 2 R1's and an R2 and none of them had any hinge issues, their screens were just as sturdy as my R3.

The last time it broke was BEFORE the R3 came out... unless im wrong it came out in April 2011 right? I got mine before that.

and the first time I broke it... i guess it pulled it back to much and it snapped but the second time and now, the screen is just getting looser and looser and looser over time

You broke it 3 times within the first 12 months of owning it? The R3 only came out a year after the R1 did.

Well contact Dell, if it was fixed 3 times with the old revision hinge which is what you still currently have, then you should still be eligible for the warranty replacement. Otherwise just google the DIY epoxy fix for the hinge, it does the job just fine.

I broke it once and that was my fault, I snapped it back to much and one of the hinge bent so Dell changed my screen and a year later, it was jut getting looser and looser and looser and now another year and a half later its doing the same thing. Ill call dell and see what they say otherwise ill do the DIY epoxy fix

Hi! Instead of calling us I would like to help you with the problem you are having. As some of the users state the battery is not covered for more than 12 months but I might be able to do something else for you regarding the hinge issue. Please submit an e-mail to [email protected] including the issue, your service tag and phone number and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
