I've just bought a second hand alienware M11x R3 (core i5 version) an am experiencing some very odd battery behaviour after a couple of days of using it. I've got Windows 8 / Arch Linux dual booting on here.

    1) using the machine on battery, it will start off at 100%, over the next 50 minutes it will drop to around 80%, then a few moments later windows will inform me that the battery only has 7% life left.

    2) charging the battery, it seems really slow to charge (not timed it yet), but the opposite happens. It takes forever to charge to around 25% and then all of a sudden windows thinks that it is fully charged.

    3) Alien Autopsy test says the battery is fine, but I have noticed the "Designed Capacity Percentage" has dropped from 84 to 78 over the past week.

    Battery Name: DELL T7YJR17N
    Manufacturer Name: Simplo
    Type: LION - Lithium Ion
    Battery Serial Number: 0300
    Designed Capacity Percentage: 78
    Current Charge Percentage: 98
    Current Charge: 48.88 Wh
    Full Charged Capacity: 49.96 Wh
    Designed Capacity: 64.53 Wh
    Voltage: 15.81 V

Anyone got any ideas and suggestions? Is it just in need of a new battery, or is something more sinister going on?

Any advice would be appreciated =)

    Designed Capacity Percentage: 72
    Full Charged Capacity 46.18 Wh

:( So continued death, I'm hoping a new battery will sort it and that it isn't a problem with charging/discharging on the actual laptop.

I believe that you need a battery replacement. You can get it by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

    Thank you L_Porras,

I'm still waiting for a reply from that e-mail address, but will reply back here when I've tried a new battery.

Did you get a new battery? I'm wondering what the cost is.

Sorry for the slow reply, yes I got a new battery in the end.

[email protected] never replied to my e-mail so I bought one from ebay from china which cost £50 / $78. That seems to have solved the problem so I guess it was just the battery.

I had this problem before, I had it replaced with a new battery. I am assuming the battery is dying. My new battery solved this problem. cheers.
