Hi I want to buy a new SSD to upgrade the WD 750Gb HD in my new M11X-R3 notebook, So I ask your opinion because I want to make the best choice for this notebook.
What I have is a M11X-R3 with I7 2617, 8 GB Ram and WD 750 Gb 7200 RPM HD.
What I'm looking installing a SSD is, more performance/speed ,reliability and off course more Battery life too...
The Big question wish of this 240+Gb will you choice and why?
-OCZ Vertex 3 240 GB or OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 240 GB. wish is better and why?
-Corsair Force 3 240 GB
-Intel 510 250 GB
-Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 240 GB or Mushkin Enhanced Chronos deluxe 240 GB. Again wish one and why?
-Crucial M4 240 GB.
-Patriot Wildfire 240GB.
What of them would you like to someone (not my of course jaja) gift to you? Why?
Note in the poll question is a error...
The it most be : If you win an SSD in a contest, and you can choose among any of this, Which would it be?

By far the Crucial M4, if you look over the net it's about the most popular choice purely because it actually hits the speeds advertised (And more!)
It also has a extremely stable controller with great firmware to back it up.
Don't go near the OCZ (3) range both the Vertex and Agility have bad firmware issues.
The Intel 510 is pretty good as well, but more expensive than the Crucial M4 for no real reason (Other than the extra 10GB)
Go for the M4, I promise you'll love it -
BuToNz Thanks for your quick responce, I have ear to good thinks about the crucial m4 too so it is in up in the list but I have look at newegg the Mushkin chronos and in paper look good but not know in reality, and the intel is the one that use less battery followed by the curcial so other good point in it.
One question did you know the difference between the standar Crucial M4 and the Crucial M4 CCA. There is a 30$ difference but what more? this are the parts number: - CT256M4SSD2 and CT256M4SSD2CCA -
I think one is whitebox and one is retail. The whitebox is more on newegg because of volume purchase of the retail.

I'd buy a vertex 3 or crucial M4 (successor to c300?). Anyway make sure the SSD is SATA III, because my Crucial c300 performs and works really well on my R3. I dont think you could really make a bad choice here, although i think the crucial is far cheaper than most of the other options and performs really well too. I would recommend the crucial based on experience

Vertex 3 bar none, it is simply the best SSD on the planet. You hear about issues because it's also the most popular.
As a second choice I would go Patriot or Intel 510, I would not get a Crucial. -
I disagree. Percentage wise, the sandforce controller can cause issues. I also hear that it compresses data to get that speed (rumor).
Finally, on top of that. OCZ has HORRIBLE wattage for a laptop use. I suspect with that additional wattage they run warmer than others as well.
As someone mentioned, the Intel, Crucial, or Samsung for our actual usage. -
How much are you looking to spend on the ssd? That is probably one of the more crucial factors when buying an ssd.
I am using an Agility 2 240gb which I swapped out from my r2. I had the 750gb hd that came with the r3 and you can notice a vast improvement on the performance. I bought the ssd for $325 used.

Hi hammadurb,
This is the first SSD that I will buy, and really I am a tech addict, and have wait a long for try this technology, so now with this new notebook I think it will be a good idea to try it, but I want/need a really good one with the less problems possible but with the best performance too, so at this time the price is a little factor (off course it matter but less that any other factor) if I have to pay a little more but get a perfect 240Gb SSD without problem I will try to do it...
Off course I hope it work for up to 1.5-2 years, that is when I will change this system again...
I will use this system like a primary pc for emails/internet, Work (like office, corel draw, Adobe Photoshop, See movies, play some games, and little more... I always have a WD 1Tb NAs at home for backups, and a 1tb Goflex 3.0 USB, with the net base for use like a Nas at home and like a external 3.0 USB when travel, for backup videos, Photos, and all other stuff but the programs will stay in the SSD for fast access.
But I will really like a fast PC and get the most of it, so the best performance I can buy but off course I need to feel safe it will not let my down in the way so the reliability is very important too, I think that the same or little more that the performance that is why the difficult to choice here... -
If you want the best performance, Vertex 3 is the way to go, their garbage collection is very good and the failure rates arent very high contrary to what people say, it's less than 1% according to OCZ.
Crucial is terrible in GC so don't even think about a RAID 0 with those drives. -
No sir, you are wrong. I have the data below to back me up. These numbers were pulled off newegg.
As it is.. Why are you mentioning a Raid 0 setup for a m11x??
Vertex 3

SandForce & Trim: listen up! - BeHardware
(I'll admit that was with an older controller)
Speaking of admission. "it's less than 1% according to OCZ." Gee, you don't think that's not a biased answer? -
People should stop buying OCZ drives, the failure rate is FAR higher than announced by them. Just take a look on the OCZ forums!
Buy a Crucial M4, if you just want it to work/run fast/have excellent support should it go wrong. -
Is the r3 Sata III compatible? I was looking at the benchmarks for the aforementioned drives and they are at 6gb/s. If the r3 is Sata II, then we are stuck at 3gb/s. Alternatively, you can purchase one of these and then just swap it out when you upgrade to a new laptop which does support it.

At the end I order a Crucial M4 256GB from NewEGG reduced price yesterday so the CCA that is with Transfer kit (usb/Sata Cable and backup Software) was at 429,99 so with rush service and next day, and using newcostumer promo-code it was at 437,98, so good deal...
and at end this is why I select it...
1.-Much people say that stay out off the SandForce for reliability.
2.- More size it is 256GB so more than the 240GB of others.
3.- It is still a Sata III
4.- It save more battery the Mushkin/OCZ/etc use 3W ore some in active what is more that what my actual WD 7500Gb WD use 1.8W (that say WD), But the Crucial say 0.16W in active so is less than my actual HD not more...
5.- The Speed is still much more faster than my actual WD HD and take in note this HD is SataII and the Crucial is Sata III
6.- it is synchronous too.
7.- Some tech-reviewer say it has a very good if not better than some other access time in less than 0.1ms....
So I hope I make I good and reliable choice, but I hope it be a very good performance upgrade too from my WD 7.500Gb 7200RPM HD. So now to wait for it, and be ready to make the swap and all the new install, I will make the reinstal usin Windows 7 Ultimate 64, so other upgrade from my actual Win 7 home premium. Then I will try some bench to see the performance, thanks for all that try to help... -
Top choice! You won't regret it!
