Hi guys, I just got my m11x, and i realized the screen is kinda too small. so i decided to get an external monitor. I am not sure how all the HDMI and stuff works, so could anyone please explain how the resolution works (is it still 720p on the external monitor?) and also what is the BEST quality external monitor screen available that is compatible with m11x?

    Sorry, Im a noob.

Depending on what version you have, the r1 model can use any display (even super old ones)

the r2 and r3 models have display port and hdmi outputs. This limits you to newer displays (not a bad thing at all)

When you output to the display, the resolution will be whatever the monitor does. Most likely you will go up to a 1080p display.

As for whats the best one, I dont know that as I am vain and like all my parts to match, so I have a alienware display :)

Most 1080p monitors will be better than the m11x screen. Currently, I use an Acer X23H which is 23" and a 22" BenQ E222HD and both look really good.

Go with the 23" Dell IPS panel. Not sure of US pricing, but here in Oz it goes for 300 bucks, an absolute steal!

Haha, I'm the same, although I wasn't happy with just one

using u2711 (2560x1440 resolution) on my R2 via Displayport. Sucks that Sony doesn't use DP at all

Go on treat yourself and buy a Dell UltraSharp 24" IPS 16:10 U2412M monitor.
No reviews and new model price. :D

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24inch Monitor Details

I have a couple of Dell 24" U2410 which work well with the M11xR1 (HDMI / DisplayPort) and my Desktop and another laptop and a TV receiver. They all connect because of the large number of monitor interfaces.

The U2410 with 2xDVI, 1xDisplayPort, 1xHDMI, 1xComposite, 1xComponent, 1xVGA, USB, card reader and 3.5mm audio may also be seen as a good deal now the 'new' 24" is out.

With the U2410, just check the screen for tinting as quality control wasn't a big issue with this model.

For the price diff I would agree with Vibes. The extra connection options are nice if running more than one monitor. You can save $ though if buying more than one of alternate models.

Im using a DP to VGA adapting doodad - not required I guess but it works. The monitors I have do not support DP and I already had the adapter so thats how it happened. One on HDMI the other on DP.

I bought a 24'' Viewsonic for my M11x and it started blinking within 6 months. Not sure how to get it serviced, since it was a gift and I have no receipt or even a clue where it was bought. Moral of the story: Do not buy Viewsonic :(

You can easily buy a good 1080p screen for $100-150 from websites such as Newegg, Tiger Direct, or Best Buy. Those sites usually have daily/weekly discounts.

I looked for low voltage, quick response, large size, more than one input, and bonus for brand. Not so comfortable ordering this sort of thing in my area and was limited to off the shelf stock. AMAZING how many units still do not have HDMI input - much less DP.

If you have a mobile phone with data plan you can go to the retailers and SEE the units and do review lookups on the spot.
