I basically installed the latest Nvidia drivers (yes from Nvidia, I switched fully to discrete in order to game).

And I optimized the Cfg file I'll upload it if any1 wants to use it:

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

I use to get around 12-23 fps in Nuketown...now i get around 30-60 fps consistently....

    I was shocked!!!!

    Anyways I hope this helps!!!!!

If any notices a mistake or optimizes it even more....let me know!!!!

    P.S

I know there are alot of threads but I just tried this today and wanted this to be seen, maybe I'm wrong and it got patched wwith out me knowing :p Or something....this is the first time since i bought the game that it runs well enough to actually kill some1. :p

For those who want to stick with dell drivers, I'd be curious how much just the cfg file would help. Thanks L1qui1d!

I just tried to play bots mode in Call of duty black ops to see if the lag is gone, and now when ever I shoot my bullets or look towards combat my frames drops only to around 32 fps, and I start to stay anywhere from 45 fps with 1 or 2 enemies in front of me to 60+ frames when there are no enemies.

In the main room of Summit Map with bots, when there were like 5-6 bots on my screen and I was shooting my gun, the frames went down to 28 fps. But it stayed consistent no more random 15 fps drops that made it unplayable to aim. (we know bots mode is the mode to test it out since it uses most of our resources)

    My Computer Configurations during Session:

-Clean install of Windows (not alienware restore)
-Nvidia Drivers 266.58 Verder Drivers (under M335 GT on Nvidia.com, You do need to turn off Intel from bios for it to work)

    - I did turn off quite alot of Services from running in the background, Such as:
    >Alienware Fusion Service
    >FAService
    >Windows Search
    >Nvidia 3D Services
    >Bonjour (ipod Servce, you might not have it but does become CPu crazy at times)
    >Peernetowroking (doubt you need this but i just turn off everything that I dont use)

Start up items that I stopped:
    >AlienwareFX (aka Command Centre)
    >DWAN card Tray (wireless Tray, didn't need it)
    >FaTrayMon
    >And anything in tray that I dont use

Credit Goes to SteveX for most of those!

    My under Windows Performance:

Virtual Memory Paging (though I dont think necessary, I always play it safe)

    Initial Size MB: 6000
    Max Size: 12000

    Visual Effects:

I force my visuals max, I mean you could tweak it to your liking, I did notice around 100-200 meg difference in ram when all were lowest, but it didn't seem to help much in terms of Performance IMO.

Programs used to increase or keep performance:

-Gamebooster Default settings (I do not use their suggested power plan)

    - ThrottleStop default (playing it safe)

    - MSI Afterburner to OC video (doesn't help much)

    - AntiVirus is Kaspersky (its turned off during gaming sessions)

    Sound Properties

-16 bit CD quality 44100 HZ

    Black ops Settings

    -Custom CFG file for multiplayer
-In game everything off, effects AA, shadows etc, except Textures are max and Trilinear is on.
    -Native Resolution.

    NOTE:

I had a dell tech to come in and fix my hinge and heating problems, he did replace the heat sync with a fresh one and the new screen actually feels of a better build (although not confirming if the hinge is fixed). The laptop is running cooler so that might of helped.

I would also like to note my conversation with Dell:

    I kept asking this question.
    -Talking to Tech Support Supervisor-

Me: "BTW is the hinge problem fixed? Just because I dont want to come back ever 6 months"

Tech: "Yes we will come and replace them"

Me:" No I want to know if its fixed with new type of hinge that isn't going to have a high chance of breaking"

Tech: " If the Hinge breaks its going to be covered for the rest of your warranty"

Me: " I dont think you're understanding my question, I want to know if the hinges have been completely remade and they aren't going to pose the same problem"

Tech: " We're not looking for you to have a problem"

Me: " Ok nevermind thank you"

There you have, not confirming once if its fixed and not giving me anything useful information. :)

Hope you guys enjoyed the guide!!!

So if you do these mods, do you lose the ability to switch to the intergrated graphics card?

If you use the suggested driver, yes integrated graphics would be lost. But i'm really curious what the results would be with the rest of the changes using stock drivers. If nobody else gets to try that, I will in a week or two since this game is first on my list. I'd be willing to give up a couple frames for the integrated graphics option

Its not just a couple of frames, it also helps stutter at times. I remember when I think Bioshock 1 was out the frame rates showed 60+ but there was stutter and just didn't feel like there were 60 frames per sec.

So it might be the same in this case, I mean just because what fraps is recording shows 40 or 30 it might not actually be as smooth or no screen tearing or random drops

Again This might all be a coincidence, but it does feel alot smoother and more stable :)

I'll say this again though, OC has no affect at all, atleast none that I noticed :p

    Some quick Benchmarks

    Nuketown 8v8

    First run:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    13343, 296946, 13, 100, 44.934

    2nd run:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    16434, 321294, 15, 100, 51.149

Seems to be running fine, considering my previous avg frames were low 20s....although to me I still found it annoying to play at those frames...going from 100+ frames to this makes it feel stuttery :p

Anyways just wanted to show some results!

    Captured with fraps!
