The week before I left for Barcelona my M11x R2 would not wake up from sleep mode, a big inconvience because I wanted to keep in contact with everyone in the USA and this was one of my favorite laptops.

Now that I'm back I want to fix it. I took it to a computer repair store near my house and the told me the Motherboard was dead and would cost $500 to replace. Although this is the top of the line R2 8GB of RAM and i7 there was no way I was going to pay that price, not to mention I build servers/comps regularly compsci/it major.

I ended up buying a new mobo and puting it in, still won't post. The screen is just black but everything lights up fine. Is the motherboard not seated correctly? I've seen this problem on a desktop before and reseating the mobo fixed it.

Oh and the hinge is broken, been meaning to send it back to get it fixed. Is the hinge the problem, this is my first attempt at laptop repair so wouldn't be surprised. I would hook this up to an external monitor but I dont have an hdmi monitor or TV, don't actually own a TV at all.

Thanks for reading, hope to resolve this soon!

Well before tear downs or spending cash you need to determine if any display will work... lug the thing to walmart/tesco/screensRus and test some LCD panels using your HDMI or DP connection. Even better is to go to a friends or neighbors place that is already using HDMI for something.

A bad screen all by its lonesome should not prevent external display. When testing use the projector only mode to disable the built in panel.

Be SURE there is no display! If you are sure that it boots normally it could be that the screen lighting is not working (cable issue?). This could be hard to see though.
