Hello,
I have a i5 M11xR2 with 4 gb of RAM and the Bluetooth module installed.
Often my Bluetooth module just disappears without a reason!? I then tried uninstalling the Widcomm software which just rendered my bluetooth completely useless. No device at. all.
Anyone know the reason / the cure for this problem?
Also: Is the Widcomm software really used? I only see the Microsoft Bluetooth driver in the device manager. Is it just "hidden" behind it?
EDIT: Apparently my Bluetooth device IS there. But it doesn't show up as a "bluetooth device"... When I hit the wireless button while looking at the device manager it just makes a few HID devices appear and go away... I used HID devices with it.

Is the bluetooth an aftermarket upgrade, or a CTO dell option?
-
It was built in by Dell at purchase
-
The easy way would be to call Dell and ask for a replacement module.
The sillier way would be to take apart your PC to the palmrests, then reseat the bluetooth module (it's a strange form factor USB link).
There are probably other ways, that I cannot think of right now... -
Hey there,
I have the exact same problem on my 11xR2. I have a bluetooth headset and sometimes with no obvious reason, the bluetooth adapter would just die as it seems and i have to shutdown and start my computer again for it to work (a simple reboot won't reset the adapter in this case). I found two topics on this forum talking about it but still no solution :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/497583-bluetooth-problem.html
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/520469-bluetooth-service-down.html
I reinstalled the drivers for the adapter but it didn't fix the problem. I guess asking for a replacement is the only solution as i can't find any solution for this on the internet (not a very common problem as it seems) ... -
Seems I am really not the only one with this problem and it hasn't been resolved yet. When I uninstalled Widcomm my Bluetooth completely disappeared forever, though! (The radio, it still does the "dun-din!" device sound when I activate it..)
-
My bluetooth would also disappear when using my Sony bluetooth headphones after maybe 1/2 hour of use. I noticed there was a bluetooth driver update using Windows Update and after installing it I haven't had the same problem. But I've only tested it a few times so far for about an hour at a time.
-
Guys, it could be a software problem, try connecting to a device and doing things with it, ex. Sending files, playing music off of it, etc etc. If after testing for it you see that it permanently disconnects call dell to replace it.
-
@IRIS:
It seems to only disconnect when using the Sony Bluetooth headset.
@BulliED will try to use the bluetooth drivers provided by Windowsupdate!
@All Sorry for answering so late -
sigh
this isn't a hardware issue, it's a driver problem. mine still does this. -
EDIT: By the way, there is no driver in Windows Update -
the current Dell Wireless Bluetooth 365 driver for the 11x R1 & R2 is Version: 6.2.0.9600, A02:
Drivers and Downloads
Can one of you who are having this random drop issue try this driver (Dell Wireless 375 - should install) Version: 6.3.0.6900, A04:
Drivers and Downloads
run the 375 installer over your existing driver install. If still having the drop issue, perform a clean install (Control Panel, Uninstall current Bluetooth driver and reboot/reinstall).
Post back results. -
Update -
I ran the 6.3.0.6900 on my R1 and have had no problems with Bluetooth. I am only using it to transfer files from my Samsung Vibrant to the 11x though.
I've left the two connected for some time and still have not noticed or reproduced the random drop - hopefully this driver will work for those who have the drop issue. -
On M11XR2, Windows 7 64 bit. Installed 6.3.0.6900, A04, made matters worse. Bluetooth headset (Samsung SBH500) connects for about 30 seconds, then disconnects with error. Not able to establish connection with headset.
How can I revert back to previous driver, 6.2.0.9600, A02? When I run setup, get the message "a later version of 'Bluetooth Software' is already installed on this machine. The setup cannot continue".
Have tried uninstalling 6.3.0.6900 A04 from device manager, but doesn't help.
Suggestions? -
I am the owner of m11x R2 bought in Japan and faced the same problem.
However, after doing lots of research to get my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard working with this lappy again I found the solution. Here it is:
1) Disable bluetooth in bios (wireless and wwan)
2) Uninstall bluetooth driver
3) Restart and enable bluetooth again
4) If you have dell bluetooth driver installed before, go to the location where the driver extracted (Should be something like C:\dell\drivers\R226746\)
If not, run the driver file again but cancel the installation right after finish the extraction process finished
5) Now inside that folder, go to \Win64\svcpack and open SetupBluetoothDFU.exe which will then open up firmware upgrade window
6) Follow the instruction until it asked for the DFU file, then choose the LS.dfu file located in the same folder (svcpack) and continue until the process complete
7) Try reinstall Bluetooth driver again
8) Now your computer should be able to detect your Bluetooth device again!
Note1: For step 1, I don’t know whether it is related or not, but sometime, disable wireless and wwan together with Bluetooth did help.
Note2: For step 4, if you the firmware program cannot detect your Bluetooth device, repeat step 1 and 3 again. Mine succeed on the 2nd attempted.
I found this solution somewhere on the internet but cannot remember where. So all credits shall goes to that anonymous guy. -
After many times, i just disable the bluetooth radio. I try many ways to fix this but no one helps. The bluetooth is a piece of jerk.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. My Plantronics Voyager 855 stays connected for a few minutes, if I'm lucky, then the Bluetooth completely disappears. I have to restart my computer for the Bluetooth hardware to reappear in Device Manager. Toggling wireless on and off with FN-F3 has no effect.
I'm going to try saran_rez's directions and will report back with results. If that doesn't work, I'll call Dell, spend thirty minutes on the phone and setup another repair at the office.
Other repairs included:
1) Replacing half the mainboard after the GPU burned out
2) Replacing the hard drive after it continually corrupted the Windows installation immediately after restoring from factory image
3) Replacing Bluetooth after the technician from the first repair forgot to install the Bluetooth module
Good thing I bought a four year warranty on my M11x. I still love it. -
hey ppls im also in this hole with the bluetooth not working, heres my set up
m11xr2 with aftermarket ssd, 8gb ram an wwan card.
so i ended up doing a reinstall to W7 Ult now i went and bought a program called DriverFinder and it labels the device as Bluetooth Virtual Devices and the driver its missing is called Bluetooth ActiveSync Service. Sadly this program only download the packages like we get from dell so im still at a lose on how to get it working.
also since reinstall I have not been able to get the bluetooth to actually appear (to my knowledge atleast) and ive tried the disabling reabling uninstalling reinstall bit as posted above and no luck for this guy. well hopefully the labels this program gave the hardware an driver i got might shine a better view for how to solve this issue -
I have the same problem, the bluethoot device was there in the tab, near the clock, and some day it was gone, now I can´t find a way to activate it, and there is like my lap has no bluethoot device at all, and I know I have it, I used my Wiimote a lot of times, also my cellphone....
