I have an old m11x R2 that was a spare web surfing computer. It would still operate through HDMI while the screen was attached. I figured just cut the wires and continue using HDMI to streamline the unit (LCD was flopping around).

I now get the 8 beep code after the initial bootup. Is there any sort of work around for this? I can get to the bios right away but once the unit attempts to continue it errors out. Any help is appreciated.

8 beeps means LCD failure, cutting the LCD cable = bad idea.

Only work around would be to get a new LCD :confused2:

Or get really handy with very small in-line-splicing :D

if it is a bios feature, could check if you could find someone capable of disabling it, that is if bios is the one refusing to boot without an LCD plugged in... seems like a strange feature too... used to have 2 old laptops (IBMs i think) was running them successfully with a monitor over VGA as a home server/storage thing..

instead of cutting the lcd, just disconnect it entirely. have you tried that?

Why did you cut the LCD cable in the first place? Are the hinges broken?

If they haven't been replaced you can send me a PM and I'll see what can be done.

I also done goofed and did the same thing. I went in and removed the wires completely and it still gives the 8 beep error. Did this ever get resolved?
