Hello , i just bought a new Alienware 11mx 1-2 weeks ago. And i am always so stupid that i dont investigate if a certain product has any issues before i buy it.

Havent received it yet, but does every 11mx have the same problem with the hinges? It seems its in the design of the computer? I only got 1 year warranty should i call dell as soon as i get my computer ? Or should i wait to 2 months for the fix. God damnit , first i buy a new computer then i need to worry about closing and open the lap top :(
This is my first Dell computer by the way.

im lost in space....cyberspace :( (worrieed)

    cry.

And this is not a joke , here in sweden i payed roughly 2200 in US-dollars, welcome to republic of taxania :p AND I NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE HINGES

    /wrist

Just wait tell it starts to break. annoying popping sound, you can see the hinge tearing apart, you will notice when it starts breaking.

What do you mean? Dell will cover the hinge issue no matter what.
If it does break, just call technical support.

Im not kidding but Dell doesnt have any phone number for private customers in Sweden only for companys, the only thing you can do is to send emails. And all my stuff i got they where shipped from ireland.

    Wow, that stinks.
Well, send them an e-mail then.
Since they have no telephone based support, I would hope e-mail based support has high priority.

    Traditionally yes.
However, they have been expanding into the private customer market.

in the year of 2010 1,650,000 computers was sold in Sweden. Dell if you want more customers to pick you, learn to have a god damnit phone number for non-companys :p

If it makes you feel better I researched the heck out of notebook PCs before I ended up ordering my M11x last Saturday. I read over the whole hinge thing on multiple forms and from what I read not all M11x have had a problem and AW is on top of it. Did you read the sticky up top that was copied from a Dell site stating they have a solution and will fix the hinge even out of warranty.

I have had cars I bought that had bad known issues that where not fixed out of warranty Dodge jumps to mind quickly. I would not worry about the hinges just handle it carefully and from what I have read on here and other places always open the lid from the center. I did go for the 3 year advanced warranty though but I figure on keeping it at least that long.

So why did I buy something that I know has a few issues well in my looking I could not find something this small with anywhere near this power and is so freaking cool in this price range!!!!

Now if this Optimus thing can just be licked this will be an ultra sweet machine I would settle for a software switch like the hp envy has!!!!

Hi, i got my m11x R2 back in July 2010, been gaming and using it on a daily basis.
Never got the hinge issues but i allways feel my laptop way to hot.
I just phone Dell, and tell them the computer was overheating and promply send a new MB, Heatsink and fan.
I have stressed my system and the heat problem have been resolve.
Dont fell afraid that you computer woud fail but do have a good warranty at hand if something happend in the time the laptop is with you (i have only 1year but shurely will purchace aditional warranty)

Me too I ran across an r1 on amazon and that put me to looking at them on the AW site for specs. Then I saw I could get the i5 and my research started.

My father worked for lockheed martin for years because of that I guess I developed a love for aircraft funny really since I have never flown in one. Anyhow the M11x reminds me of a stealth for some reason and I fell in love with it. Then the whole lighting fx thing blew me away. lastly the win amp plugin that makes the lights blink to the rhythm of the music and I just had to have it childish I know.

All this cool stuff in a package not much bigger than my 10" Asus eee and the 12" Asus I was looking at before I found the M11X. I can't wait for it to get here and hope it ships from Tennessee which happens to be where I live.

But I really had to feel comfortable about the hinge thing. Chris m. from dell support has many post on different forums stating they know it was a problem and promised M11X owners would not be left in the dark. This really eased my mind about buying what I wanted. He has the type of name I trust for some reason. :p

    Chris
But my last is not M lol.

I wish I could have waited but my Asus eee is 2.5 years old and getting issues. left track pad button quit, some of the keys stick and others have to be pushed 2-3 times to make work. Lock ups and shut downs are getting common. I think shes cooked.

I would have liked to waited on the R3 to see what it brings to the table. But my Asus is my primary as sad as that is so it was pull the trigger now or buy something else(Another eee likely) now and maybe an AW next year. I'm not that patient so now I wait for my AW AND I HATE WAITING!!!!
