My m11x r3 is only around 7 days old and I get scuffs on my screen. So today I called support and told them that I paid 1200 dollars for this machine and deserve a replacement.... or a tech to come down and fix my keyboard(recess a little down) he had the nerve to tell me to buy a screen protector. I asked if I buy it or they would..... I would have to so I then hung up.
Should I call them back?
Thanks

are you 12?
Call them back, say whatever you need to in order to get a replacement screen and keyboard. When the tech comes out, just give him the laptop and tell him tech support said to replace it.
Seriously dude? 'Should I call them back?'
Really? -

If it is that big of a deal to you then you have to be willing to put some time and effort into trying to get it replaced. I went through a lot of hassle when I was trying to get my M17xR1 replaced with an M17xR2. I would imagine since this is a cosmetic only thing it might be a bit harder but you should be able to get them to. And while your new screen is coming in you should order a screen protector or something like THIS like myself and several other M11x owners have done.
This is a common issue with laptops that have the glossy screens. How much the system costs doesn't seem to matter. -
First things first. Yes, the m11x screen is close to the keyboard, cant get around that. But most of these computers come from the factory with the keyboard not fully installed. To fix this you need to...
Turn off computer.
press firmly on the left side of the keyboard till you hear a click.
press firmly on the right side of the keyboard till you hear a click.
The problem is that the keyboard has small tracks on either side that its supposed to pop down into. Many of them are not seated all the way down.
You can also get a razer kubotu (sp?) mouse pad. It is the perfect size for the m11x and fits between the screen and keyboard to protect both... plus its a sweet mouse pad. -
I might as well buy one. My M11x R3 is about to arrive and the last thing I need are scratches on my screen.
-
I got one first day I got my m11x and its been great.
One thing you will notice is that the laptop doesnt close all the way, there will be a little bit of a gap when the mouse pad is in there, but dont worry about it. I have had mine since the launch of the r1 and its still great. -
I am going to order a screen protector
Thanks for the advice.
-
Sure thing. Hope you get the screen sorted out with Dell.
I almost went with that Razer Kabuto, but noticed it was twice as thick as the protector I linked. I don't really need yet another Razer mousepad, and figured the thinner the thing between my screen and body the better. Either one you get you should be happy. -
Thanks
Any screen protectors you would reccomend?

I got THIS and it fits great. Covers the entire keyboard from edge to edge and fits nicely front to back as well.

\ / (tab) they are pushed in up to here -\ /-
the marks are how far they are pushed in -
forgive me for being presumptuous but if you scuffed up your screen, isn't that your fault and not Dell's at all? so why would they be required to fix the scuffs that you caused?
if this is the screen touching the keyboard and oil getting on the screen, that's also on you to put something between the screen and keyboard when you close it. -
-
however, how does a closed laptop stabilized in foam in a box within a box get scuffs on the screen itself? -
It really isn't too far out there for it to happen. Vibrations can do some seriously crazy stuff. This is why such things like truck bed liners or toolboxes wear away the paint and cause rust. The box gets jarred around, sent cross-country in trucks, and all kinds of stuff. No matter how locked in the laptop is with foam and such, there is still a space there between two surfaces.

The lid does not close all the way..... when I close it... there is a small gap.... not completely closed
-
Yes, the rubber bumpers on the wrist area hold it open in an attempt to stop anything from coming into contact with the screen. But as said before, the keyboard touching the screen still is a common problem among laptops. Mostly ones with the gloss finish since it is easier to see marks on and because they usually have the gloss cover (whether that is plastic or glass) over top of the actual screen. Also that goes along with what I was talking about earlier a bit. Nothing is really holding the keys in place during shipping or whenever closed. And the kinds of vibrations caused by transportation can vibrate the keys enough to where they could cause small scuffs.
If companies would just start lowering the keyboard a tad so it is recessed some then these things wouldn't happen. But that would also make the system be a tiny bit thicker, which would go against the skinny trend that everyone seems to think all laptops need to be.
I notice oily smudges on the glass of my MBP now and then, even though its keyboard is recessed somewhat and the entire screen has a rubber "seal" around it that holds it off the aluminum. Just shows that even the most solid built laptop body out there even has these common flaws.
I may not even be making much sense right now... I'm awfully tired but can't seem to pass out yet. >.< -
Heh.. i like ur explanation. It got marks from a drive and it was in the seat pocket.... well i will use it until it gets marks that dont come off and get it replaced as i have the advanced warranty -
Do they not put the little white clothlike piece in the new models?
I've been using that little white thing for over a year in my M11XR1 & I have no scuffs or scratches. -
This thread is the result of not reading the other threads. Its possible that the tantrum thrower didnt have a properly packaged system and the little white spacer was missing - if so then exercising warranty claim should be easier. Everything else has been covered... but lets do it again.
This issue is COMMON. Harder to see on non gloss screens but I first noticed it nearly 20 years ago in certain lighting. Sucks and avoidable but for reasons already mentioned it still happens. If this is your #1 criteria you will be looking for it on next purchase.
My problem with using just a pad is that it stresses the chassis. I had failed hinges anyway but feel the best approach to this "problem" is a combo: both cover and larger bump stops. In my case the cover is a rubber KB cover that stays on the system during use. I did this not for the screen but for keeping the keys clean and debris out. Works great for both issues.
You can read all about this dead horse in other topics. -

Peas in a pod at best. You need to accept that others are reacting to you negatively for a reason. Pointing out what you THINK is the same in other posts will get you nowhere and misses the point.
All the best on this. Hopefully you have enough info to either prevent the problem or seek replacement when it occurs.
