Just a few days till I order my m11x (still hoping Dell Canada will put out a deal soon). I'm planning on going with the r1 version, so I'd like to here from some people with both silver and black and know their thoughts. I like the look of black, but I hear it's a terrible fingerprint magnet, and the colour scheme gets "booring" after a while.
All thoughts are appreciates, thanks.

To me the silver colour makes it look less beasty and agressive, the colour black makes it look dark and mean, and when you have red for your LEDs it looks sweet. But this is my opinion. I've had my R1 since it's come out, and it isn't "boring" to me, and fingerprints aren't that noticeable either, unless your hands are greasy..

I would go with black (because I did go with black).
Silver is so Y2K. The only silver-colored laptops that I have seen that look good are the aluminum-body laptops, like the MacBook Pros and the HP Envys. Otherwise, silver paint jobs just look cheap, plastic, and tacky.
A black Alienware M11x with some red and blue LED's just looks aggressive and mean. It gives the machine a look of "I demolish games and spit out framerates like the mean S.O.B. that I am." -

I got silver. Cause everyone else gets black, that was my reason.. Otherwise it would be a pain to tell the difference between my wife's and my own. Color is preference... I wouldn't worry about what others think is cool... it's yo thang... do watcha wanna do...

it is too bad that there is no nebula red option
-
first of all nebula red will look bad. You will have to set the lights to a color to match it or it will look downright ugly. soft black matte is the best.

For the R1 I would get silver. Not sure if you've seen the R1 in black, it is very shiny (and imo looks tacky and cheap). It looks like the ugly shiny black bezel on my plasma tv so if you want it to match your flat screen perhaps take that into consideration. The silver looks more "adult"/"professional" if such words can be applied to Alienwares. The two-tone look is actually quite nice.
The R2 black is also very nice imo. It's not shiny and does not look tacky.
I am fortunate enough to have seen each of these colors in person (although not at the same time) but for me I prefer the R2 matte black, then the silver, then the R1 shiny black.
Ultimately I wish these were made out of metal and I could get the red but ya cant have it all -
I kind of wish it came in green.

You can always get one of those vinyl covers on Ebay. 24.99 specially made for the m11x. My concern, my main concern was that it shows it covering part of screen border (whatever you call it). The cool thing is they send you a background so the vinyl cover and background look fluid. They have a really cool bio hazard looking theme that rocks...
Still too scared to cover my m11x gem with anything...

I'm now having second thoughts -
Just get a microfiber cloth and wipe the black down every so often. I love the black. It looks very sleek.

I was being semi-sarcastic there (Red's my fav. color; green is my girlfriend's.) I was thinking of her lol
-
I got a silver because it still looks professional enough that I can take it to work (after adjusting the AlienFX lights of course), and I like the color.
It's almost a replacement PC for me. If it was for purely gaming I might have gone with the Black, but I'm pretty happy with Silver.
I wish there had been a Red option, I would have been all over that, job or not... -
Not hating on silver, but I think black looks more professional. With the FX lights off you can hardly tell its anything different from any other black laptop. Black hides the lines (like a black car), silver makes all the details very visible. See thinkpads, they are almost all black and very basic looking.
