im playing torchlight 2 on my R2 and every so often i get a hard lock BSOD

now this happens in a few other games ocassionally, and its always usually nvlddmkm.sys

    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\092412-20997-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0xAD6004)
    Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA800A7F8010, 0xFFFFF88011174004, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x4)
    Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 306.23
    company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 306.23
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.

anyway i am running the lastest driver so is there something else going on thats fishy?

temps are around 50 degrees when idle/ web surfing

If this is what i think it is, its a fairly common issue that affecs R2. Something happens with nvidia's shader clock that kinda "kills" it. With older drivers the game freezes. Task manager can close the application but the process can't be killed (requires a hard reset). New drivers apparently just give BSOD.

I don't think it can be fixed and its not a driver problem. You can get a mobo replacement (if you have warranty), and it usually solves the problem. The other solution is to download MSI Afterburner and underclock the shader clock a little bit untill it stops BSOD. You can find out more if you google "nvidia optimus freeze issue".

You could try a clean install of the latest video driver. (I'd even say both the discrete and iGPU as well)

After you've completely uninstalled the current version you're running, you can manually clean up your registry or use a tool such as driver fusion. Then just install the driver regularly and see if it works.
