The simple answer is Dell's policy is to replace with equivalent or better.

They will end you a new M11x.
May not be newest, but they will send you a newer M11x.
I suggest 3 year, as 4 year kinda seems overkill.

From what I've understood, basic warranty is all hardware issues, including the hinge if it's worn out. Advanced is things like spills and dropping.

Being a laptop, I'd spend the extra $$ and get the advanced coverage. You never know when your buddy is going to accidentally knock it down whilst drinking or something.

For the desktops, I'd just go with basic.

I bought the three year advanced warranty on two M11x's I just bought. I previously had an m1730 through Dell and had a number of issues with it. They were pretty good about sending replacement parts and, eventually, they just gave me an equivalent m17x as a replacement.

Definitely recommend going with the three year warranty.

Simple answer: There's a good change statistically of it dying every year of ownership (even disregarding the hinge problem), so get one for as long as you plan to own it.

Always get the best that you can afford if you are planning to keep the laptop around. I really love my M11x and am hoping to keep it around for a long while as long as it will do what i want it to do.

    Of course it does !
I have them to replace my R1 with a brand new, but until how many days his hinge will last (on the first model it took 1 month of normal usage to start to broke).

    But ....
1°/ investing 300+ euros for 3 Yr warranty is quite expensive for a lot of young people, in my humble opinion...
2°/Dell should have figured out the hinge problem before selling cheap plastic hinge (it is said it was already the same M15X issue)...
3°/ Hinge problem on a 1700 € PC is as much unacceptable as Toyota selling bad cars....Though TOYOTA is MORE serious than DELL, because they did
fixed ***ALL*** of their cars without any discussion.
Alienware's customers should unite and really put this in the hand of good lawyers so it doesn't happen anymore...

    At the end...
It was my first Alienware and it will be my last.
And I don't want plastic computer no more !

Dell will always try to repair the existing unit with parts. They will only replace the entire unit with another unit if they determine that it costs more to repair than replace.

If you ever do get a total system replacement, it will be a refurb unit. The only thing about the refurb unit is that it is guaranteed to operate. This means that there is a chance that you may get a unit that has scratches, dents, etc. Dell is only obligated to give you a unit that functions - not one that is cosmetically perfect.

And yes, if they run out of replacements, they will give you a unit that is equal to or greater than what you have. But that is going to be highly unlikely with the M11x R2 - you need to wait for the unit to stop being sold, PLUS wait for them to run out of replacement parts and refurb units. That is likely going to take much longer than any 3-year or 4-year warranty that you could buy.

In summary, the warranty truly should be viewed as a way to protect your existing laptop. It is incredibly unlikely that you will somehow use your warranty to get a brand new unit, or a "free upgrade" by receiving a newer model.

Mine will arrive next week with 1year warranty. How much will it cost if I add 2more years? If I'm satisfied with M11x R2 I will keep this for more than 3years.

Any link where's on dells website I can buy additional warranty?

You have to call them to get additional warranty,
I forgot the number, but you should be able to find it easy enough.
Same goes for cost, you are gonna have to talk with them.

Considering that I never drop my electronics, or even subject them to dangerous situations, it's not worth it for me. Besides I get a new laptop every 2-3 years and sell my old one off....
