As a student, I dont mind carrying my 15 inch gaming laptop to school. But, with a cattery life of about 3hours, it's sometimes frustrating.

So i've been looking for a netbook...and obviously the m11x came to my mind.

This guy is selling an m11x R1, with the sweet alienware bag and MW3 and BF3.
For a total of 700$ (here in canada, it's rare to find Alienware stuff).
He just upgraded the Ram to 8gb.

    So my question is.....

Can this laptop actually run MW3 and BF3?
And how does it manage on some recent games?
    What's the battery life?
(his m11x is only a year old) is it gonna fall on me?

LIke I said, I got my gaming laptop to play it on high settings but I wouldnt mind gaming on low with this at school sometimes in breaks and stuff.

AND, would it be worth to put a 120gb SSD in there for cheap? my buddy is selling some with a friendly price. (i dont need more memory, just gonna be school stuff and a few games).

Anyone knows the perfomance of the laptop on games like:
    The witcher 1 + 2
    Risen 1+ 2
    Spacemarine
    Skyrim
    Deus Ex : human revolution
    Diablo 3
    Batman : Arkham City
    Civilization V ?

ps - sorry for the english, french guy over here!

    Thank you,

    Sam :)

Have a look here for gaming performance:

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

The R1 is old tech however so you cannot expect too much from it and BF3 will really struggle. The R1 is however a master of battery life hitting 10 hours+ at idle the R3 is more about performance and good battery life but only achieves 5-6 hours.

MW3 and BF3 on an R1? No, not really. Unless we're talking lowest settings @ 800x600. Don't think it would run The Witcher 2 either.

Yes an SSD is worth it, but don't bother with a SATA3 drive as the R1 only has SATA2.

Crucial M4 or the Samsung 830 should be good and cheap - both SATA3 but not the fastest SATA3 drives in benchmarks.

Those two are always my top recommendations, if you can get those at a good price then by all means get it since they both have good backwards compatibility.

It's just that usually the SATA2 drives are cheaper as most places like to clearance them off.

I play MW3 at 720p and most settings on Auto/High/on. The only setting's I turned down are shadows(to off), and 1 other one which I cannot remember. Online play and SpecOps are both very playable with framerates ranging from 40+ to my Vsync'ed 60

No OC on my GPU, and CPU running at stock 1.73GHz.

    Thanks everyone !

I actually got some video footage from the guy playing MW3 and BF3 on the m11x and it had good fps going. I dont know how these could be fake since it was made by a camera?

And thanks for the recommendations for the SSD!

If that was a movie of the R3 then that could be why it runs MW3 perfectly and BF3 at low-med native res but on the R1 you are really only looking at running MW3 as BF3 will need to be pushing minimum settings + resolution and still struggling.

MW3 for sure works well on the R1. Less so for BF3, once you get a large map with many players, it really struggles. I run Skyrim on high and rarely get lag so very much playable.

Is there a huge diffenrence between singleplayer BF3 and multiplayer in terms of FPS and playability?

Because in the video he was playing SP and personnaly I would only play the campaign aswell. (not a big fan of only shooters)

Which is a cool reason more to buy the m11x, I would never buy these games (which are more MP oirented) but I always enjoy the SP missions.

    Thank you,

    Sam

As a new owner of a m11x r1 I can say that it will run Batman AC, Witcher 1, and Skyrim with medium details just fine. As far as the price, idk, thats 300 more than what I paid for less than a month ago on craigslist with similar specs. I paid 400 for a 1 year old m11x that last 6-7 on battery, 128 ssd, box, everything. I know you said you live in Canada but that seems a bit much no? For school, I cant wait till the new semester starts for I can bring my little guy with me in between breaks or whatever. Just for that I would pay a premium because it get so boring just sitting in the library.

$700 is way too much for a R1, if you do want a m11x, I would pick up a R3 honestly, or a R1 for $400 or less.

But a R1 can still get the job done, I played about 140 hours of Skyrim on my R1 and it worked pretty well.

I've got to transfer Skyrim to my m14x with all my mods. No way I'm going to repeat 90+ hours just because my m11x died lol thank goodness for USB 3.0

M11x R1 was a good laptop back in 2010 (I had one myself) but now you will get much better deals, instead of R1 try M11x r3 or Clevo w110er...
