I see many saying the alienware m11x r1 is not good at cpu intense games due to the cpu. So what are the cpu intense games? Is fifa 11 and nba 2k11 cpu intense games (I play those a lot)?
Also a side question if some1 can answer them for me. Should I OC all the time? Does it hurt the laptop over long time? How much worse will battery use time be when OCed.
Thanks in advance, I tried searching my questions but couldnt find a clear answer so I just asked.![]()

Those dont really sound cpu intensive, cpu intensive games are calculation heavy. The big 2 that come to mind is starcraft 2 and civ 5...but ive read that a lot of people with the R1 still get good fps on starcraft. I have mine set to OC all the time. As long as your in within Tjunction specs you'll be fine; basically keep your cpu under 100*C, which isnt a problem at all for the m11x, mine doesnt reach 50*C. I can still get a good 7-8 hours with oc on all the time, it doesnt really increase power consumption that much. It actually uses less volts then when your not OC'd and your multiplier gets bumped to 6.5.

CPU Intensive games are one's with either a lot of physics calculations or other calculations. Think games like BFBC2 on high, RTS's with lots of units on screen at once, etc. -

So end-game in Civ 5 if I were to OC an R1 it would be lag-free?
Is this with DX9 or the DX10/11 option?
I love that game to death. Best TBS genre since Heroes III/IV imo. -
Wouldn't cpu intense games be RTS games?

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
RTS games and MMORPGs.

I think mmorpg's are only graphics and network heavy compared to most other games. I think the only really cpu intensive part about civ 5 is when you get later into the game and everyone has a bunch of units, it might take a little longer to calculate everything for the next turn

I've had no problem with Civ V on my R1. But games like Football Manager 2011 get a bit laggy during the 3D match engine if prolonged game time.

Also any kind of high end simulator games, like flight sims.
