I am planning on getting the M11x glare filter, but my screen has some scratches on it.

Would it be possible to replace the edge to edge glass over the LCD, before I put the cover on? Is that part available for purchase?

If anyone knows offhand, it might save me from having to call and deal with Dell customer service :)

Theoretically it should be possible to replace just the front part of the display including the glass, alienware logo and the plastic underneath without changing it all. Although I dont know for certain I cant see why they'd not have that part seperate.

Do you have a warranty? You might be able to get that taken care of without any hassle. I know waiting for repairs is the worst part, but in the end, it may be simplest.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that the E-to-E cover is actually attached to the LCD itself since they are put together in a dust free clean room. When you get the screen replaced in other models (M15x and M17x), Dell sends the entire LCD and E-to-E assembly. So your best bet is to have the entire LCD/Assembly replaced.

    Thanks for the replies.

It is under warranty, but there isn't anything technically wrong with it. Not sure they would replace it just because I want it to be scratch-free.

Replacing the entire LCD would probably cost a lot more than replacing a piece of glass.

You can find replacement M11x LCDs online. They do not come with the E-to-E. If the LCD and E-to-E are connected, does that mean any replacement screens sold anywhere but through Dell are bunk?

I will call Dell and get the scoop. I will post what I find out.

If the scratches are from the keyboard, they'll replace it under warranty. If not then you'll have to convince them somehow. More than likely they'll do something for you. Good luck man.

Agreed. Although if you have the advanced warranty that covers (should cover) this. It IS for accidental damage.

    It's plastic bro. Believe me.

There aren't even 3 R2 revisions out there. Only one M17x-R2. M11x-R2 is coming soon, M15x-R2 has unknown ETA.

    UPDATE...

Dell is replacing my entire LCD! They didn't even try to argue with me. Now I am going to order the glare filter. I figure with the holiday on Monday, I can probably get it here around the same time as my repair. If the LCD gets repaired before I get my filter, my M11x will be staying home with the lid open until it arrives!
