My monitor suddenly goes like this..White blank and with some stripes on it.

    Heres the photo..

Strangely the External LCD monitor that i connect to my m11x still working perfectly fine (as you can see also in the picture)
so only my internal LCD that goes crazy.

Anyone know how to fix it?? i already try resetting it with no avail.

PS: Last update that i remembered is Updating Bios from A1 to A5
and updating the Nvidia Driver to 197.72 around 2/3 days ago.

Even if you reboot, is it still "wierd"?

    yes..
i already tried to reset/reboot it a few times..no use still like that.
i already tried to rollback the nvidia(vga) driver and reset it, but it's still like that.
i somehow can use the external LCD monitor though.. :( :(

    Either:

-Take out the battery and hold down the power button for a few seconds (resetting)

-Reinstall the OS, and GPU drivers (more likely cause of issue)

-Take apart laptop, reseat LCD 40pin connection (should be accessible at the keyboard removal/palmrest removal stage)

Either of these options, though I personally think it's the LCD connection being lose. Worst case, the LCD itself is dead and you need to contact alienware for a new one (free, under warranty). The last and final possibility is something is wrong with the transmuxers (iirc, that is the name...?) that help the switch between the Intel and nVidia GPU on the R1.

    @_@.
i cannot open up the laptop though..
i'm a over-seas student in france right now..and don't have all that equipment.

so do you think i need to re-install the win 7?

oh this will be pain in the if i really need to go to Dell here in france.
not forget to mention that i need to ask somebody in my home to deliver the waranty card because i left it in my country.

i'll try to rollback the bios first.from A5 to A1
    will this make any different?

warranty card is excess. As long as you have the express service tag (on bottom of laptop casing), then you are fine.

You would need a decent pair of screwdrivers, otherwise, you run the risk of stripping a few screws...

EDIT: Try booting in safe mode. If that doesn't resolve it, then the OS/Drivers are not the issue (IMO).

EDIT2: I'm sorry for the late reply, just got busy in the last few min...

Safe Mode is F8. I'd surmise your video card died.

Since you can't see anything at all, it won't be that easy. :)
Anyway, here's how to do it:

Once you switched the Laptop on by pressing the power button, keep hitting the F8 key for about 2 -3 seconds, then wait for about 15 seconds. Then hit return. If all worked out well, it should boot into safe mode.

Btw, you hooked up your external LCD via VGA, right? What happens, if you try to switch from discrete video card mode to nvidia and back? Does it make any difference? Oh, and try setting the resolution on your external monitor to 800x600 and make sure, the screen setting is set to duplicate.

    greetings from germany,

    this is really strange one...
I shut down the computer, plugged out the charger, and turn it upside down for seeing is anything wrong with it.
and then i left it for a while when i'm taking a bath.

when i turn it on again...the LCD return to normal, like everything never happen.
    works fine..vivid color.

Can someone summarize what really happen with this @_@
just hoping that it's not broken again in the future (you know how much that an over-seas student depend on their m11x do you? lol)

    >blackfades2grey
I already tried to switch between two graphic card and nothing happened that time.
the LCD is just stay still like the picture I gave before.
already tried all that duplicate things...and nothing work =D.
    greeting from france man.

    that's weird!
I don't really have an explanation for the behavior of your m11x. Normally, I would have said its because of your gpu being too hot, but since you rebooted the laptop several times, it should've cooled down by then.

lets hope it stays that way! :)

Just a guess on my part here. Possibly the GPU chip is over heating or the Vid drivers have become corrupted .
