I've searched this forum and Google pretty extensively and still can't find a conclusive answer to this. As I've learned, they got rid of the VGA port on the r2 and r3, and only have 1xHDMI and 1xDisplayPort.
My question is a simple one: can I run 2 external monitors or not?
I found this thread: m11x dual external monitors possible?, but that thread only talks about the r1, which has a VGA port. I obviously already knew that 1xVGA + 1xHDMI could run 2 external monitors, so nothing new there.
This thread on the NVIDIA forums seems to suggest that it's NOT possible.[/I]
(Video card that I'd be using is the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT540M graphics with 2.0GB Video Memory)

Just throwing this out there. Could it be possible with a USB replicator that has a VGA port? You could plug one monitor via HDMI and another via the VGA?

I'm not sure where you are looking but when I googled, the first things that came up were about 45 dollars. First one I clicked on, Buy.com - Cables To Go USB 2.0 to VGA / XGA Adapter Cable supports up to 1680x1050. It wouldn't surprise me if there's ones that go up to 1080 for a little more.

It works - my R2 below:

Well, someone in the first thread you linked to said they ran two monitors off of the HDMI and the DP. I haven't tried it so I don't know first hand if it is possible. If it does work, you may need to go to the nVidia control panel and select the two external monitors because it can only output to two screens at a time. Also, you probably don't want to use a USB adapter for gaming although it would likely be fine for everything else.

That is a nice setup you have there Code. Very clean and neat.

Is it just 1 HDMI cable directly from the m11x to one monitor, and a DP cable directly from the DP port on the m11x to another monitor??
(I couldn't tell whether that thing in your picture was some sort of daisy-chain device...or whether it was just a USB hub you're using for non-monitor stuff) -

Be sure to support the cable weight when using adapters

I will definitely be doing this when I get some more money.

Does anyone know the max output resolution possible on the M11x R2, or if it's reduced when using two monitors? I'm interested in connecting mine to both a Dell U2711 and a U2311h, but wasn't sure if it would be able to take advantage of the absurd resolution of the U2711 (2560 x 1440).

I can't say if both can be maxed but my R1 runs two 24"@1080 ok

What size monitors are those and what multi monitor base are you using? Been thinking of getting something for my 2 24" Dell monitors. -

I know of a person that had a Dell 27" 2560x1440 monitor connected to a M11xR1 and it was mooted to support that screen resolution without issues.
Both the HDMI and DisplayPort support this resolution.
Also just for a laugh, using two 24" 1920x1200 monitors with audio support (Two Dell U2410 via HDMI and DisplayPort) on an M11xR1, one can play two DVD at the same time.
Using the audio channels within the cable specs, one can channel two discrete audio output and watch two DVDs at the same time.
The M11xR1 CPU (1.6Ghz) can 'handle' the two video processes. -

Resolution is often a memory issue at higher res but the current cards have more than enough resources. If using windows applications I would expect performance to be just fine.
The NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M GPU hits the sweet spot for mobile users who demand great performance and an awesome multimedia experience.
Maximum Digital Resolution 2560x1600
Maximum VGA Resolution 2048x1536 -
The two DVD processes display smoothly on the screen 1920x1080 (physical 1920x1200 with black strip top bottom)
So in lay-persons terms, it works.
The standard M11xR1 only has a 1.3Ghz C2D (or 1.6Ghz over-clocked)
Can the r2 or r3 (No VGA! only 1xHDMI + 1xDP) run 2 monitors??
