Contemplating to purchase it but I can't stand the idea of a lit keyboard.

Btw is typing smooth? With my current Vostro 1220 the keys are a little stiff. I love my mother's miniature Asus, the keys are very soft and ez to press.

Yes you can turn all the lights off, and the keys aren't at all stiff. Quite nice in fact.

AlienFX is fully customizable. you can choose which ever you which to leave on and also color to individual portion eg. keyboard, speaker, status indicators, power indicator and so on. you can even switch to go dark mode where all lights are off except the indicators

keyboard wise its really soft and quiet thats all i can comment

Phfew that's quite a relief. Unfortunately though I can't turn off the childish Alienware branding and the Gray head. Thank God I work from home else I would get dirty looks in an office with this stuff!

But I guess Dell purchased the company to cater to the younger generation and combat their image of an austere office PC manufacturer.

That one does not turn off, it uses the backlight from the screen.

OK, Clarify time. You can not turn the alien head back-light on the lid off on the M11x in normal operation. (explain if I'm wrong)

I can however turn the light off by closing the lid with the lid closed status set to "do nothing". This is the operational state I use when connecting external monitors and keyboard/mouse to the M11x.

You know what, I was worried about it looking kiddy too but in the flesh it actually looks quite smart. My girlfriend is jealous of the keyboard lighting too :D
It certainly is bold looking though.

What? You can turn off the light for the "ALIENWARE" under the screen. I have that off.

The only way that isn't lit up is when the screen is off whether you just close it or power down.

Yes, that's what I use: Fn+[Print Screen | Alien FX] key turns off/on all the lighting except Alien head instantly.
