Just curious, RAM is getting pretty cheap these days...

    ~$75 for the 2x8GB kits

Sad... Crucial Memory Advisor says No... Says each slot can hold max of 4GB.

Oh we'll. More money for the SSD.

Theoretically, no. But there's a chance it might work.

That CPU is not going to be able to handle more than 8GB as it is. Like a goat with 2 legs.

Not saying yes, but they also said the x51 was maxed out with 8gb of ram.... then someone put in 16 and it worked.

    so, maybe?

If you can barrow some one elses 16gb I would give it a try.

We can only recommend up to 8GB on that platform but some users might have been able to do so. Give it a try, it's worth the chance.

Fairly certain the CPU being dual-core is limiting it to 8GB max.

You could find out for us... seems in your sig you have 3 laptops... an R1 and a G73 with 16GB RAM... ;P

Obviously the speeds of that RAM will be slowed down, but it should at least answer the question.

    No 8GB dimms, the g73 has 4x4GB.

I have a M17x R2, officially, it supports 8GB max with a 4GB stick in each slot. I have it running 16GB of RAM now, with a 8GB stick in each slot. The bios shows 0MB RAM, since 8GB modules were released much later than the laptop, but windows recognises all of it and I have not had a single issue with it. I have yet to try the 16GB RAM in my 11x :)

I handed my R2 down to my GF and it won't take 16 Gigs, but my R3 is happily running along on 16 gigs. Speaking of RAM prices, I just ordered 32 gigs for my desktop (I use Vmware Workstation alot) for about $130.

    R1 I will bet money won't take 16 gigs.
