I can only overclock to 156 Mhz. Is this enough reason to get a replacement from Dell? :(

Max OC isn't guaranteed, and I don't believe anyone has successfully returned their R2 for it :(

Why not call them up and try instead of posting here? But post here if it works :p

same here, it will boot but its very unstable so I'm at 150 and its running well - I'm happy with the performance considering how cheap this machine was.

There is no guarantee that your replacement will be able to even hit 156Mhz, let alone 166Mhz. As headphones989 mentioned, your best bet is to use Throttlestop in the link he provided.

Just something, in case you are working upwards, just try it at say 162 as mine seemed not to like some frequencies.

I have a new job with dell, and Ive played with 4 engineer sample R2 units, the best I have managed so far is 162 to windows with a BSOD in 3dmark :(
    Best stable 3dmark was 160mhz.

Just curious, run CPU-Z and post a screenshot. Wondering if you have a K0 or C2 stepping

Were you using throttlestop as well? You won't see a performance difference in the OC unless you modify the turbo power limits.

No, I wasn't. I was only using the stock tools given to me by Alienware.

No, overclocking whilst an option is not a guarantee on the R2 (just like it isn't on any computer that allows overclocking).

This might yield better results. I like to disable it when overclocking sometimes because the up and down changing can lead to instability.
