    hi there,
I was trying to change the boot sequence in the bios of my m11x from hdd first to usb storage first but it won't let me change anything. There is a "+" in front of hdd and when selecting any other device (cd/usb storage/network/removal devices) and clicking + or - it will just "beep" and do nothing.

    thanks in advance!

Shift+1 selects the device for boot. Default is HDD of course.

The + in front of the selection means that selection is expandable. Meaning, there is an entry 'below' it.

Arrow down to USB Storage and once it is selected, depress SHIFT+1. This will place a '!' in front of it.

esc+save changes and reboot. Remember, the USB drive must have a boot sector.

Curious, why do you want to set USB Storage as the default selection? If booting occasionally via USB, just use the F12 @ BIOS and select USB. It will be a onetime selection and revert back to HDD after restart.

If anything goes funky and you find yourself unable to boot the system, just reload BIOS defaults.

Thanks for your reply, I wasn't sure about the "!"

When I hit F12 it won't show up USB storage for some reason, only the others, so I decided that I would need to do it through bios.

Strange it isn't showing up when using F12. have you tried with another USB storage device plugged in? Odd - even without a USB device plugged in, I still see the USB option in the F12 menu. Very odd.

I just realized - I had "USB Emulation" disabled in bios.. I enabled it now but even when restarting now and hitting F12 it will only show

    1. +Hard Drive
    2. CD/DVD/BD
    4. Network
    5. Removal Devices
    6. Diagnostics

    "3." is missing

Do a 'Load Default Settings' in the BIOS, save changes and then reboot - see if that fixes it.

Thanks, I re-enabled IEEE just before in bios and it seems work now!

Another question though -> I installed a SSD to my m11x and would like to run HDDErase on it.. in a guide it states:

Q: How can I bypass the Security Lock?
A: You can try the following:
    1. Boot your SSD to another computer.
    2. Switch your SSD to another SATA channel.
    3. Hot Plug your SSD (Dangerous):
    Turn your PC off.
Unplug your SSD power cable but leave signal cable in.
Power back on your system, complete boot, re-attach your SSD power.
    4. Set a password for your SSD in your BIOS.

Although I have no idea how I will be able to do any of that with the m11x? I can set a password to boot in the bios but not for the ssd itself.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks~
