Hello everyone!
For the longest time I've been considering which Alienware to buy.. First I considered the m14x then the m15x, then BACK to the m14x and now finally I've found myself looking at the m11x since I just saw what I think is a pretty good deal for one on CL.
Here's my question! Could an m11x R2 play games like World of Tanks, Allods (it's like a WoW knockoff..) on high graphics? I'd probably be doing most of my gaming on a 900p screen but I was also was hoping it would at least be able to play on a 1080p TV screen on low-med settings. I'd like it to have a pretty good detail (high/ very high) for the 900p screen though. Does that sound like a fantasy coming from the GT 335m and an i3/i5 processor, any thoughts? If you have any benchmarks for either of those games OR games similar to them, I would be deeply appreciative if you posted the stats.![]()

World of tanks is very poorly optimised for instance I can play Skyrim at high 1080p on my R3 but World of Tanks struggles unless you turn off all the crap they chuck in that ancient engine. They have introduced a new engine for high end but not bothered to fix the old one.
The 335M that comes with the R2 is not a long way behind the R3 and I have yet to find a game I cannot play. The more intensive ones you may need to limit to medium at standard res 768P I sometimes have to drop to Low at 1080p on mine but games like Dead Space 2, Starcraft 2, League of Legends are all maxed quite easily. -
I've heard that World of Tanks has some really weird things going on with it's graphics. People with C2D's can max it out and people with i7's and high end GPU's start lagging.. So I can't really base what computer I'm going to buy off of WoT's screwed up engine.
I guess to be honest I'm a pretty casual gamer (It takes a moment of reflection to realize that, lol). Most of what I would be playing are older games or WoT so a 335m and an i3 should probably be able to handle it. I'm just hoping that WoT plays nice with the 335m and my 900p screen. That's what I do all my gaming on at this point.
P.S. That's a nice rig your building! -
The ULV processor's do only run on 2 cores 4 threads but the game definetely has an issue with the I processor's. I find it runs fine if I limit the settings but sadly I don't think you will get the performance you want with a 335m.
Went for the build as I want to keep my M11 but needed an upgrade decided it was best to go mini gaming pc and then got a bit carried away 8) probably going to watercool it too the case is big. -
At this point I may be making yet ANOTHER turn-around.. I might still try going for the m14x. Just because this is going to be my main gaming rig, by getting an Alienware I hoped to outstrip my E6750 C2D and 9600GT GPU. With the M11x (R2 or R3) I'm not really sure if that's possible.. :/ The only mobile GPU on either the m11x or the m14x that would beat my 9600GT would be the 650m in the m14x R2. Do you think I should probably go for an m14x instead if I'm gonna be using as my main gaming computer?
That case is big? I thought it took Micro ATX? -
Before going for a desktop build I was certainly going M14x R2. Its a bit chunky but packs a punch. Be aware that the fan is dire. Hits 50db as it has the I7 and GPU on one of Alienware's noisiest fans.
Case is big yes and is for a mini itx. I was a little surprised but have you seen the size of the coolingI intend to have a full sized CPU fan and at least 5 fans on my recon. Will prob upgrade to a dual gpu and watercooled in 2014.

Wow! I knew it was loud, but I'd never actually looked it up.. Someone has a youtube video up of it, the thing sounds like a tiny vacum cleaner.
Still.. As long as it remains silent while I'm typing on it in class, I'm cool about it (no pun intended lol). Do you think an m14x R2 could probably handle WoT with the 650m? For the processor everything's good.. Even the lowest CPU in the m14x R2 creams my E6750.
How would you do dual GPU? I just took a look at some of the Micro ITX boards and it seems as though many of them have more then one PCI Express slot? -
650M GT GDDR5 will easily handle World of Tanks. The R3 can at low-medium settings on the new graphic engine at 1080p and achieve 30fps M14x should be able to push high 1080p getting above 30fps. As mentioned the 650M can just be clocked to a 660M quite easily it overclocks like a pro.
The M11x also comes with that vacuum cleaner noise but nowhere near as loud as the M14x it is ridiculously loud, glad the one I bought was not for me.
Well i suppose it will be the 790 GTX to replace the current duel GPU the 690 GTX. 2 GPU's on 1 PCB. The 6990 HD was the original beast of this monster kind.
Considering buying an Alienware m11x R2. Can it do what I want?
