When the screen dims after a while and I wake it back up by moving the mouse the brightness doesnt go back to the original setting. It stays dimmed and I have to manually increase the brightness. Anyway I can fix this? Also how can I tell which graphics are currently being used? In the tray panel both the nvidia and intel logos are there. I remember people saying that to tell you right click on the desktop and if nvidia control panel options is there, then dedicated graphics are in use. But for me the nvidia control panel is always there even when I don't have any programs open. I also disabled the Aliensense through msconfig but when I power my machine on the window comes up for a while and then I can see my desktop when it goes away automatically. One last thing and this is not a big deal but when I took the laptop out of the box there were some kind of small smudges in each corner (4) of the top lid, am I the only one? Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow, okay, not to be a d*ouche*ba*g, but please hit the space bar everyone once in a while, hahaha.

Okay now to the important part, helping you:

1.) As far as the dimming is concerned, you need to look into your power options in your control panel. I'm running a different version of windows, so you'll just have to go into the control panel yourself.

2.) Here is an app that tells you which graphics you have on; integrated on geforce 335m: Optimus test tools finally in users hands - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

3.) Haven't received my m11x yet so I don't know about smudging, getting it on the 23rd hopefully (7/23/10)

    I hope I helped, and if I didn't answer a question that means I didn't know the answer =)

The issue with dimming, if the power options don't fix it, is answered in one of the last pages of the stickied thread for technical questions and problems for the R2.

Also, kopicha's thread on the new beta drivers shows how to install them to get a taskbar icon that shows when the 335m is activated--superior to the Optimus Tools IMO, since those don't have a tray icon.

What kind of smudges are you talking about? Could it be finger/hand prints from putting it in the box? Do they wipe away? I didn't notice any on mine, but I could have overlooked them.

Check out this thread. There are a few people (me included) that have this problem:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/492602-intel-graphics-dimming-problem.html

I had this too. I think it was part of the manufacturing process, where they would "mount" the laptop on 4 holders to assemble the internal components. Just take a slightly damp towel, and wipe. Those smudges should come right off.

Oh, and just a bit of friendly advice - in the future, it helps to get replies if you use a more descriptive post title like "Questions on screen dimming, which GPU is active, and smudge marks". A more bland and generic title like "couple of questions" will probably get passed over by a lot of people that don't want to take the time to click in to the post to see what you are asking.
