My brother, who knows nothing about overclocking and even less about what a CPU does (being more into music) is going to use my R1 in a week for school/gaming. So, to make things less complicated I was wondering two things for him:

    1) Is there anyway to enable/disable the overclock on the SU7300 without having to go into BIOS?

    2) Does the overclock (from 1.3 to 1.6GHz) reduce battery life that much? If it doesn't then I will just leave it overclocked for him and make his (and as a result, my life) less complicated.

    Thanks,
    DeeVu

    1) nope

    2) not a noticeable amount. Just leave it on, you wont be able to tell if its oc'd or not based on battery life.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but if overclocking doesn't hamper battery life, is there any reason not to overclock?

it depends from laptop to laptop, but since this is a ulv cpu and such a small oc it really makes a little difference. On other models where your able to overclock farther and with a "normal" cpu (as in power consumption) other factors come into play, like heat output and elevated power consumption.

The R1 Overclock also undervolts the CPU so it uses less power then it would be without Overclock mode. Problem is, some CPUs aren't stable with the lowered voltage so can't use Overclock mode.

With OC I have 7-7.5W of power consumption on idle, and 8-12W using laptop for heavy browsing and other tasks. Without OC idle is 6.8-7.4W, and during browsing I've got same 8-12W range use. // The results are from Battery Bar

"Real life" time has no noticeable impact on OC settings - just live it on.

*UBER GEEK TALK WARNING* The CPU is a ULV type CPU, it consumes 10 Watts, while a AMD Phenom X4 consumes 200+ Watts. Of course overclocking the system will decrease battery life. You're increasing the FSB multiplier. Which multiples how much powers going to the CPU. You could Software OC the system but you can't do it on the M11X, even if you have the PLL, you could pinmod/hardmod the system, only way I know without going in the Bios. Bet you can't guess my age ;)

Nope, 200+ watts for my desktop. Also, the AMD Phenom X4 is OC'ed to 4.3 GHz. Of course a desktop wouldn't consume that much. :D
