Just finished downloading dead space 2 but no matter what I do it refuses to run with the nvidia GPU, it will only work with the intel GPU. I tried forcing it through the nvidia control panel but to no avail, pretty much unplayable at 4 FPS. I have not seen this problem in any other game I own, not sure what the deal is, I will be seriously pissed if this game has not been tested with optimus.

First of all, what driver version are you using (though I don't suspect this to be important)? What happens if you right click the .exe and select 'Run with graphics processor -> High performance NVIDIA processor'?

if anyone manages to get it to work: post some gameplay vids on youtube to show how well it plays.

Ok. I installed and played only about 5 minutes last night (I haven't finished the first one yet). Had everything on High at 1360X768 or whatever. Everything ran fine on my R1.

just hoppin in, cant provide a video but im playing DS2 at 1080p on external monitor with max settings except shadows turned to medium and fluid as can be. no dips below 28 yet but i've only played half hour. I have the i5 with GPU overclocked to 560/1400/870.

    its usually around 35-50.

Is there even a difference in the engine between DS1 and DS2?

Approximate frame-rate? Is the FPS smooth during combat?

I just finished Dead Space 1 ten minutes ago. So I'll start Dead Space 2 tonight. I'm out of town and don't have a way to record gameplay.

Congrat. I am too scared to play Dead Space 1 at the moment.
Just finished the "tutorial" part and too scared to play.
I just don't like surprises, bad for my heart..

LOL. The first couple of levels are admittedly scary; however, once you've collected a couple of the more damaging weapons the game quickly decends into a non-scary corridor shooter. Brillant nonetheless.

playing on zealot mode on DS2 and i can only play 30-45 min at a time before the stress levels leave me hunting down a save spot and taking a breather lol. this game is awesome and plays very well on the m11x!

DS2 plays pretty great out of the box on the R1 at 1280x768. I was going to throw up a Youtube video but the framerate suffers while FRAPS is on.

just get a camcorder or something and record the screen with fraps just showing the fps only.

EDIT: If you're this user then I thank you now!

DS2 goes smoothly on R2, with everything maxed out and 1366x768. No issues with the FPS whatsoever

They both use the same engine (Godfather engine).

The framerates in DS2 are slightly lower than DS1. If you got 50-60fps DS1, you can expect around 45-50fps in DS2.

And I also can only play DS2 for about 1 hour at a time. I'm a wuss. I like to put headphones on w/surround sound mode, crank up the sound, and turn the lights down. My wife gets a kick out of sneaking up behind me and tapping me on the shoulder to get my attention. It FREAKS me out. She loves doing it.

I'm in the church stage right now, where the main entrance is blocked off (of course). And now, I have to go through the friggin CRYPT to get to the mission checkpoint. Seriously? When is going through the crypt ever a good idea?

Considering I don't have an R2, no. I never get below 35 fps and most of the time it stays above 40.

@Talonh - have you gone through any of the pinmod stuff at all to increase FSB on your r1? I was curious to see what increases you got in games like DS2 going from 266fsb to 300 or 333? Best Wishes, StevenX

I also installed Dead space II and after adding it to the optimus list it runs great. I didn't run Fraps (or other) to see actual FPS but it runs significantly faster than Arkham Asylum and I was getting 32fps+ on that with the same settings.

Hope it helps potential Dead Space 2 <del>downloaders</del> customers.

No, I'd rather not mess with that. I realized why the framerate wouldn't stabilize though; I had to drop the resolution one notch and it's fine now. I'll post the video once it uploads.

Go into your Nvidia Control Panel => Manage 3d Settings => Program Settings and click Add. Search your hard drive for deadspace2.exe and change the default adapter to Nvidia. I also recommend changing the power adapter to prefer maximum performance. This should get your game running just fine.

Dead space 2 has been freezing/locking up my computer. I have the new Nvidia driver 266.58, new BIOS from dell, etc.. The game will run normal, good frame rates and then randomly freeze up (note that this also occurred before on the Dell supplied GPU drivers). I try to Ctrl Alt Delete and use task manager to close out the game, but it doesn't stop. All I have is a black screen and I have to reboot the computer. Also note that I am not overclocking. Do I have a faulty 335M or is Dead Space 2 buggy?

I have the exact same problem. And its too annoying to encounter a freeze and restart my M11X every time after a few minutes of play so I stop playing it and wait for a solution. Any ideas?

That's what people are experiencing in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...oforce-gt-335m-11xr2-causes-game-crashes.html

I suggest that you head over there and add in your experience. It seems like a common problem with the 335M graphic card.

Would really appreciate it if you folks could post up your in-game graphic settings (doesn't matter if you are on the R1 or R2).

I'm trying to find a reference for in-game graphic settings for this title on the 11x from someone who has no issues with game-play (lockups, crashes, etc.).

    Thanks everyone!

    Thanks.

    YouTube - Dead Space 2 - Alienware M11x R1 - Part 2

I literally go into the options menu and show off everything.

EDIT: Also, to clarify, most of those settings are default out of the box. It runs perfectly fine at 1280x736. I usually leave AA and Post Processing off as the 335 seems to like this. The lighting quality is set to High when FRAPS isn't on and vsync is off.
