I see this when I right click on the desktop shortcut of D3, then it says the default graphics processor is the integrated card.

But when I do run the game, the nVidia GPU activity icon on my taskbar says it's using it.

I mean, I'm not complaining but I wonder which one is true? For reference I'm running everything on high except shadows at medium (which improves my fps about 20), and get a constant 55 - 60 in-game.

I'd think that D3 is correctly using the GPU but I wonder what is causing W7 to think the default card is the integrated one, whereas the activity indicator is showing it's using the GPU when I run the program.

I'm not very concerned but however I am thinking if this is signs of something breaking in my machine? Or is D3 really using the integrated card and I can get more if I whitelist the program? Just want to ask here before I touch anything.

    Thanks.

Yea iono why, people come in to the M11x section and like to ask people what laptop their using.

W7 doesn't like detecting the GPU's properly. As long as you're getting decent FPS, then you know it's using the 540M. For the record, D3 won't start on the integrated GPU it actually HAS to use a dedicated card, so there's no question that you're using the 540M.

    Poor performance fix

    -Download new drivers
    -Overclock
    -Download game patch

Go to nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, and set diablo 3 to use "high performance nvidia graphics"

It does not "HAS" to use the dedicated card... The Intel HD3000 can run Diablo 3 perfectly fine as long as you turn the shadow off... I run it on my Macbook Air with i7 and no problem at all... Although when I am on my Alienware m11x R3, I make sure my dedicated graphics is on so that I can turn the shadow on to make everything look prettier.

OK well let me re-iterate - Diablo 3 will not run on the R1's integrated GPU. It's always been whitelisted on my R3 from the first time i ran it, so i've never run it from the integrated GPU i simply assumed it was the same.

But none the less if he is getting that FPS with those settings then he's using the 540M.

Hmmm, I'm having some framerate issues with playing on my R2. I haven't put in much time with it... but i'm getting around 20-30fps and I feel like it should be more around 50 or so...

i'll check the driver updates, but any other suggestions besides shadows off? I figure that I would be able to still run some great settings on this alienware.

The reason why it seems to be working with the intel even tough it is running with the nvidia is optimus, if you need to test this optimus technology functionality you can do it with this.
