So I have called them 7 times today, spoke with two diffrent reps and two managers. I tried to explain that I can get a brand new r1 mx11 for 549$ at dells website, and that the same spec model they have is 549$. How are they going to get rid of units with that price structure? I told them I was gonna do the student discount for 499$ but that was taken down, and asked if they could match that price.

    Got 7 no's

If it makes you feel any better (not that it will) but I didn't get anywhere with them on the phone either! They were actually kind of rude, 1 guy started raising his voice at me. Finally, while I was on the phone with one of them, I looked up the student rate and bam, saw the $499 and jumped on it and hung up with that angry Dell man. I got lucky.

If you get a rep that won't deal or is rude get their name (always write that down when they tell you it in the beginning), then tell them you'd like to consider your options, thank them and hang up. Call later in the day, make sure you get someone else and try haggling.

Also, follow the advice given in the well written thread for maximizing your chances of getting the lowest price that's in the Alienware parent forum. Lot's of good tips there.
