Cores are different than threads. This one has 2 core, 2 thread on each core. So 4 virtual cores, but only 2 physical. Threads share bandwidth with each other, but cores do not.
True i7's have 4 physical cores, 2 threads on each core, resulting in 8 virtual cores. -

A dual core cpu with hyperthreading like that i7 is far less superior than a quad core cpu, even if it only has single threads.
Think of it this way. When we say a cpu runs at 2.0 ghz and has 2 cores, each core runs at 2ghz. If it has 2 threads on each core, 2 threads "share" the 2 ghz. So if one is processing stuff at 1ghz, the other cannot use more than 1 ghz.
Dual core refers to # of cores thats it. -
