I ordered my m11x on the 24th of February. I got the box on the 3ish of March. New models are out. Can I get an exchange? Can I get a mother board upgrade? What are my options? <RANT> Had I known that in 2 months a new better sexier version would have been out I would have waited. Technology is frustrating enough without being screwed out of a good upgrade. You shouldn't be refreshing your laptop line every 6 freaking months!!! GAHHH </RANT> You guys have any advice or words of wisdom? (Oh and don't reply with the usual bull like, that's technology or other useless crap. I am looking for some concrete answers with real solutions to my current problem. No wizards or magic allowed, unless it can conjure up a new machine.)

R2 came out in June, It's not Alienware's fault that you just bought your R2 a month ago without being patient knowing there are rumors that r3 is gonna come out the following month. With some research you could've avoided this mess ;).

Anyway if you are still within the 21 day return period then return it and get the r3. I'm sure Dell will not charge you with a restocking fee as long as you buy another product from them but it depends on the CSR Rep you talk.

I would have been happy to wait if someone said wait 2 months we got a way better machine coming out. I would have even paid more for it.... *grumble*

If you return the system within 21 days, and DON'T plan to buy another dell system, you will incur a 15% restocking fee.

There were no official announcements of an R3 until the day it was launched. A manual was leaked about 2 weeks ago that had the specs which suggested an imminent product launch, but before that, the release day was just all rumours and speculation. There were people on these forums that were screaming "It's April! It's April!", but their information was as reliable as the information earlier posters were screaming "It's December! It's December" last year.

Besides, judging by the early benchmarks, there's hardly any difference between your R2 and the R3, so it's too soon to be feeling buyer's remorse. Enjoy your machine, safe in the knowledge your price/performance ratio is better than an equivalent R3. =)

I thought this was the case too...but just to confirm, I made a call this morning and the Dell rep stated that a 15% restock fee will be charged for any returned systems.

Can anyone else confirm that 100% will be returned if the system is returned within 21 days?

I sure hope you are correct Speedy.

Thank you sir. I'll live in the knowledge that I can play GTA4 and Rift. Hopefully Skyrim will run alright. I was actually thinking of upgrading the m14x if I could get a refund. But I suppose you are right. You sir, are the Roxxor!

I just got a 100% refund approved, but I was ordering my R3 at the same time. I think the rule of thumb is there will be no restocking fee if you are under the 21 days and purchasing a different system.

When I received my R2, my screen was damaged and I was so bummed I called to return it right away, but they said 15% restocking fee if no other order was placed. Ended up just getting a replacement some weeks later, which ended up extending my 21 day time frame! So it all worked out.

The Dell Policy on returns is kind of hit and miss.

I believe the policy is no restocking fee if your order another machine (withing 21 days of delivery).

However, I just had a go around with them about canceling two machines I ordered two days ago - talked to three different reps and a supervisor... really GOOFY!

    1. Rep A1: Okay, let me transfer you to that department. Rep A2: Hold one second, let me see what we have... (holding)... Rep A3: Sorry, our customer database is down, please call back in two hours. Thank you. (Click!)

    Two minutes later...
    2. Rep B1. Okay, hold one second... looks like we cannot do anything for you. Would you keep the laptops for $50 off. How about $100. Oh no - well, I am sorry, you must accept the laptops and then return them. I cannot do anything for you. Oh, you want to talk to my supervisor, she will tell you the same... okay, please hold... (holding) ... B2 ("supervisor") Yes, as my consultant has told you, we cannot cancel your order. I am sorry. Please accept the laptops and then just RMA them. Yes, I know this is inconvenient, but we cannot do anything. It is out of our hands. The systems have moved into production. I am really sorry. No, I do not have a supervisor you can talk to. Thank you - goodbye (click).

    3. C1: Oh, you want to cancel your order - hold on one second... would you take $50 off to keep them... no, okay... one second... your orders have been canceled. You will get an email shortly. Have a great day. (click)
