If you want proper cooling. The vent does not line up with the mesh opening on the case.

How does dell manage to fail this hard? The vent isnt even the same size as the mesh mind even lining up with it. How do you make a case for a specific product and at the same time produce it improperly? Leave it to dell.

ohh gosh lol! dell and alienware fail! lol!
-
LOL, give it to dell to design such a thing
They bring shame to the alienware name

amp, do you have the part# handy for the binder? I'm being lazy and dont want to check the site...

Thanks for the heads up. I was just getting ready to order one of these.
Can you define proper cooling as it relates to this case?
Also can you post some temps in and out of the case? I would like to see how the vent location impacts the temps.
Thanks -
I don't think it will make much of a difference when using the intel integrated graphics chip, but when gaming-on-the-go with the 335 I would definately think something will definately heat up, also especially if you overclock.
There have already been posts of heat issues and Brian from Dell has acknowlodged it. Imagine what this might do, especially considering the material inside the binder is much like that of the lining in one of my winter jackets. -
Yea i saw this too i got one of those too im debating on weather to send it back. The vent isnt completly blocked though but half of it is. So its not a complete fail.

While the vent may not line up (and yes I agree it is a design flaw), the portfolio case still looks nice for easy travel and I believe also is compliant with TSA guidelines. I might still pick this one up... thanks for updating the thread with the part#.
-
I have the portfolio case but It´s not like I´m gonna use the computer sitting in it. Gonna try and see how it works though when I get my M11x. Not a complete fail haha.
-
I guess not that much of a fail if some vent gets in, still, I would've liked to use the case all the time rather than having to take it out, if I even have to.
-
Dont get me wrong it is a nice case but you think they would have actually taken an m11x & put it in the case before producing these lol.
-
From the looks of the binder it seems that you can only carry the m11x in it plus some little nick-naks. Givent this, the only positive I would see in getting the binder is the fact that you can use your m11x in the binder...so this is definitely a fail for me. I’ll be sticking with my Dakine messenger bag for now but might upgrading to a Chrome bag or maybe even a Boblbee.

Mobile-edge is the one to blame.. lol
-
Thing is it's a tough case and it's very sturdy, but a case for carrying just a bit more would have been better since I'm a mobile DJ. I would honestly have gone with a sleeve and put it in a backpack if I knew. -
I have the case and never planned to use it inside the binder. Not sure why one really would, but it's very sleek, professional looking and caries some small documents, my external HDD, pens etc. Plus it comes with a handle, a wrist strap and a shoulder strap. Great product IMO. I knew the lining didn't match up completely with the vents either.

wow. wondering if one who designed it still has a job.

I'm more worried about that zipper on the top flap.

I own the portfolio case and it is excellent, even when playing with the system in it. The vents don't line up, but the system still seems to have zero issues cooling adequately. At first glance this indeed does look like a blunder, but in the real world it makes no difference at all. I have played Mass Effect 2 for over an hour at max settings in the case and the system was as cool as ever. The case looks very nice as well. If your looking for something very portable and convenient to carry your system, this is the one you should consider. (I also have the Orion Messenger bag, which is awesome but huge!)

The way you have the pictures set up is deceiving. The fan and the vent on the binder are on the same side. The vent just needs to be shifted up a little.
If you were to place the m11x in the binder as shown with the vent on the left and the fan on the right you'd be opening the laptop the wrong way with the screen facing away from you. -
I actually bought this "binder" thing back in weeks go.
It was not that bad; I basically treated it as a "protective shield" for my M11x.
Anyhow, It was too heavy (compare to sleeve I got).
It is now sitting under my desk and collecting dust..LOL -

just in case they revise it and you still want one from outside US! -
I have this and the fan actually is about 75-80% exposed, while not perfect still very functional and there hasn't been any heating issues. When the unit fits into its sleeves the zipper isn't a factor at all...overall a great carry case and I have taken it on 2 trips since receiving 2 weeks ago. The only complaint I have is that there is no real room for the power cord. I think the heading to this thread is a bit to harsh....overall I'm very happy with the case

Recevied mine today. No zipper on the inside for this one. Too bad my M11x didn't ship with it.
