I just traded straight out with someone. I had a HP DV7-4069wm 17" laptop that was 4 months old in mint condition with a 2 yr extended warranty. I traded it for a 11 month old mint condition M11x R1 upgraded to 8gb ram and Momentus 7200.4 SATA 3Gb/s 5000-GB Hard Drive. It had a Display/Hinges and battery warranty done on it in Dec. 2010

This this was a good trade? just curious what others have to say on it.

    Depends.
I'm no expert, so don't take me word for word.
From what I can see, the HP has a better processor and obviously larger screen size. The M11x however has a better graphics card.

So long as you don't have CPU intensive applications in mind, the trade was good. Though might I ask what you software in mind to run on the m11x?

Well I am not running any intense CPU programs on the R1. I looked at the trade because I needed more portability and the large 17" didnt give me that, also liked it for the better GPU for the gaming and I have a external 21" LCD that I use for it when I game. I basicly just go on the internet and play BBC2, COD4, NFS Shift and that is about it for now.

I am thinking about dual booting maybe with OS X later on down the road.

Depends what you want to use it for. My HP is similar to yours and I use it as a desktop replacement at home. I tried lugging it around to class and other places to use for studying but it was too big and didn't fit well on smaller desks. Overall I think it was an okay trade. The lack of GPU driver support for the R1 would bug me.

I understand the feeling of being outdated and having newer stuff available. But why does everyone love driver updates so much? Unless you're getting an extra 5+ frames with each update, it seems like more of a pain than anything. Everytime there is a new update a slew of new issues are introduced. I guess I've never seen great advancements with new drivers in any machine going back 10 years when I've updated. Unless the current driver has major issues, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I'm way off, Idk.

Well I installed the 260.99 Hybrid Drivers + Intel 2020 on my R1. I have so far not had any problems with it and I get great Frame rates with my CPU and GPU OC'ed. I am very happy with my R1 that I acquired in the trade. I have also extended the warranty with Dell/Alienware.

That's cool. I certainly enjoy my R1. Did you happen to grab a benchmark before updating? I'd love to know the value in the driver update

IMO you got ripped off, QUALITY wise.
Alienwares are custom build PCs, each personally manufactured by an Alienware engineer.
HPs are made on conveyor belts with the cheapest parts possible to maximize profits.

ok so I dont get it... if your saying IMO I got ripped off? If HP's are made with cheap parts on a conveyor then how is it I got ripped off? I traded my HP for a M11x R1

Reading glasses would imply I can't see the letters. I think you mean dyslexia.

    You got the better deal.

Had you had a 1920X1080 display then I would say he got the better deal.
