Okay, so I saw Day of Defeat Source on Steam for $2.50 so I bought it.

    Problem is, it's completely unplayable.

On lowest settings I can get a max FPS of about 20, though generally I get 10-15 on any setting. Also I notice there is no muzzle flash when firing, which seemed odd.

CSS runs at 60 FPS constant with everything maxed, so surely something must be wrong here?

    I already whitelisted it...

Thats weird. I played it about 3days ago and It was just fine. Ill try it again tomorrow see if they changed anything patch-wise. They have been patching a lot of theold source games recently.

    1) Update drivers to 260.99
    2) Run w/Nvidia graphics
    3) Problem resolved

Happened to me 2 days ago too, now I'm playing @min 50fps.

If you are using the R2, what you will need to do is add the HL2 to the NVidia control panel and set it to use the NVidia card. Double check that whiles the game is running that the NVidia card is kicking in and is rendering for that application.

You can refer to here: Check Which Optimus Nvidia | Drivers Software, Tutorials and Tech

If you are using the 260.99 then it is built in on with your driver I have forgotten the steps to enable the monitoring.

I have actually enabled 1080p and max graphics and everything was running smoothly.

    I'm pretty sure it's a whitelisting problem.

Which EXE did you add to the whitelist, and in which directory did you find that EXE?

The hl2.exe out of the day of defeat source directory.

All other hl2.exe based games work perfectly.

    That is strange.

    Two things I would recommend:

    1) Update to the latest supported drivers (260.99, downloadable off of nVidia's website).
    2) Do you have the overlay utility to display which GPU is running? I belive it's called Optimus State Viewer.
