I know, stupid question, but many laptops are leaving it out

So the question is, does the Alienware M11X R3 have a physical activity light that lights up whenever the hard drive is being accessed?

    TY!

The Alienware head at the top of the keyboard is the activity light if I am not mistaken.

Alien heads eyes is the activity light. Damn hard to get it on with an SSD though. (power button) the area around it is ON/SLEEP might be other modes as well, and eyes is the HDD activity.

Yup, it's the eyes of the Alien- head power-button. Not very noticeable, but it does it.

thanks for the replies. the kicker is that the sales person checked with the tech and they say that it has no hard disk activity light.

i'm asking them to check again. Thanks all!

It's not a built-in HDD activity light, it shows the HDD activity on the head via the Alienware software. If you knew how to you could code it to display almost anything. So in a way they are correct. But then again Dell doesn't have a very good understanding/knowledge of their Alienware range.

the sales insists that the light is only a power on, suspend light. I hope you guys are right.

By the way, does the activity light work outside Windows e.g. when Windows is loading from boot, or does it only work when the Alienware software is loaded?

My R2 doesn't have any lights on, other than the power light until Windows finishes booting, whereupon the AW software loads and then HDD light and keyboard / mouse lights up.

My M18x displays HDD activity via the Alienhead power button, so I would assume the M11x does the same.

As I was not able to confirm this for you earlier I can now :) The HDD does indeed cause the eyes to flicker when loading. Here is a movie give it a minute to get going.

She just arrived and is so amazing. Going to get my SSD in and then will do a complete review of my purchase from the UK. My experience was superb the best I have had with a company and the result of the item recieved is out of this world! 5 days from purchase to arrival custom made from China.
