From normal usage (taking notes in class) my palmrest and touchpad gets hot while the keyboard stays quite cool. Is this abnormal? Anyone have this happen? Is it safe to assume that most of the heat comes from the harddrive?

The only time my palm rest gets hot is when I'm gaming, particularly the left palm rest. When I'm browsing or doing other less intensive tasks, the laptop remains cool.

I've never noticed anything during normal tasks. What are your system temperatures?

CPU's usually 50C while doing normal tasks and 70+ while gaming.

I have not noticed this. The CPU side does get very hot from the bottom, but not on the top (palmrest area) of the laptop.

I believe I am experiencing this, the touchpad is a lot warmer than on the left and right of it. But the very front of the laptop is a lot hotter!

Warmer, but never anything I'd consider hot when in long gaming sessions.

My laptop only warms up when I am not using a hard surface. The airflow keeps my laptop pretty cool. It is currently running between 46 and 49 degrees.

Yes, the entire left side of the laptop is noticeably hotter then the right, especially the far right (top to bottom). This includes the left palm rest and touch-pad.

Perfectly normal when gaming and after long periods of use.

Under all conditions the laptop is never uncomfortable to touch/rest wrists on.

    cheers, Paul.

The left side definitely gets warm, but nothing too unbearable. It makes sense considering that's where all the major processors are.

    CPU temp: 45-60 (browsing-gaming)
    GPU: 46-61 (browsing-gaming)

Yikes, you guys are lucky. My touch pad gets unbearably hot when I do anything more intensive than Word. 50+ CPU GPU when browsing, 80+ CPU GPU when gaming.

Yeah the palm rest left side does get warm I wouldn't say hot but alot warmer than other spots on mine. Temps fluctuate doing everyday tasks cpu 46-54c overclocked at 167 and gpu stock 40-45c. Gaming cpu 60-78c overclocked 167 & gpu stock 55-65c.

I think that spot is where the RAM is, and I would guess that more RAM = less hot
