I have an r2 that I bought around a year and a half ago and am having problems with the graphics card. When I look at it under the device manager it gives me a code 43 error, and when I try to open the Nvidia Control panel it says "You are not currently using a display attached to a nvidia gpu." I have tried reinstalling the drivers using driversweeper and I also reinstalled the OS but that did not fix the problem, so I am assuming it is dead unless there is anything else I can try?

I'll try different drivers, pretty sure its not a temperature issue. What program should I use to underclock?

When I try to open afterburner it says you don't have a compatible graphics card.

I'm using the ones on the dell page when I select m11x r2, the 257.3 and also the intel ones from the same page.

Do you know how to access Bios? If you do, check and see if the Graphics option is on discrete or switchable. I understand that you're using an R2, and should use the Optimus technology, but it sounds like you're computer is not even recognizing the Nvidia card. Try to also go into safe mode, and reinstalling the video drivers as mentioned. I know the R1's sometimes have had hiccups...I've got one =/.
To access Bios, hit F2 while booting up your laptop. The graphics option might be on the second page...I say might due to me having an R1 as opposed to your R2.

I double checked the bios and there isn't any options to change the graphics around, I've tried the clean installs of the drivers using safe mode and driver sweeper but it doesn't do the trick.

Ok, if not failed it must be software. Curious what happens when you try hardware diag. Not sure, but if the R2 has built in diag in BIOS give that a whirl to see if hardware issue detected.

So I ran a diagnostics and there were issues with the hard drive would that be causing the graphics card not to work?

I think there was but from what I could tell it only tested the intel hd graphics and it worked fine, I also downloaded the dell diagnostic from their website and that won't allow me to test the nvidia card either.

damn. Haven't had this issue before to be certain of anything.

Any good linux distro to try? I think they have had a good lock on nvidia for a while now so maybe a live cd as a test?

I'll work on trying to get one that sounds like the best idea right now.
