Hi guys, I currently own r1 model and has been using them for about 3 months now.

I haven't realized this, but my ethernet port was broken in my model.
Thing is, I moved into college about a month ago and had to use wired internet to get the faster internet for downloading and gaming.

Since I only used fast wireless internet at my home before college, I didn't even checked on the ethernet port of my computer.

So here's the problem with my ethernet port; It seems that the lights on top right and left side of ethernet port is supposed to be lighted up when I plug in my cable, which mine doesn't. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my college's wired internet because I checked with the wired internet at my home and had same problem. Also, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with my ethernet cable because I checked the cable with my friend's notebook and it worked fine.

Since this is the only computer I have, I'm prob gonna go to some repair shop to fix it instead of sending it back to dell warehouse

so is there any local dell/alienware technician that are available at the area?(I live in College Park, MD)
I couldn't really find one at the dell and alienware website.

    Thanx :)))

Did you purchase your machine from dell? If so, I'd call them first and see if they can troubleshoot your problem (i.e checking drivers, remote connect, the works). Also if they cant fix it over the phone you may be able to get a AW Tech in your area to come to your location. Just because you dont want to ship the machine off doesnt mean you shouldn't still give them a call...they'd be the best to talk to about the problem.

    GL,
    Dank

    Hi,

before you call dell, you could check these points, to make sure that its not just a screwed up setting:

    - go to your network and sharing center, click on change adapter settings. Is the LAN connection greyed out? If so, right click it and choose enable.

    - check your device manager. Is there a yellow triangle in front of any of the listed devices?

    - when you plug in your cable, press the windows + r keys and type in cmd. press enter. In the console window, type ipconfig /all and post the results here.

I hope this may solve your issue!

    greetings from germany,

Ethernet port may also be disabled in the BIOS, I suggest checking there before you go on thinking that there is something wrong with the machine.

    Above suggestions also seem valid.
