Changing the hinges on my M11x R1 and the sales guy said If I wanted warranty on the laptop. Its suppose to be 200 plus 50 more for an out of warranty laptop but he got it down to 200 from his "supervisor" and said its a one time thing and need to get it NOW. I said no and immediately he said OK ill send you the quote through email! HAH. Anyway, Is it worth it? Is this the cheapest I can get it at? Would I be lucky enough to get an upgraded system to an r2 or maybe even an r3? anyone have any success? Any help would greatly help

Buy the warranty if you plan to keep using or of if you plan to sell it. Either way it's worth having. Don't expect an upgrade for hinges.

You'll have to transfer ownership on your name first by calling up Dell or filling the ownership transfer form.
You'll need a few details about the original owner to do this.

I do plan on keeping it. fortunately the hinges are going to be replaced for free since Alienware acknowledges its a big problem with these. I was wondering more about, say something happens to it, burnt motherboard or broken lcd IDK. Is there any luck that I might be bumped to a R2 perhaps? Ive had graphic card with life time warranty and I would be bumped 2-3 generations of a card.

Katalin is right. You can get a transfer of ownership but you have to have the owners mailing, email, and telephone number to do it. Might want to contact the seller and hope he was the first owner of the laptop, if not it will be difficult to find out who was. Here is a link I hope will help for the UK though.

Yes, if there are absolutely no parts they may replace it with an R2 or R3, though it would have to be some massive hardware failure like the systemboard dying. But i don't suspect it would be happening anytime soon i'm sure they still have a fair bit of stock left atm but it depends on region too.

Well the service tag is printed on the bottom of your laptop... I highly doubt the service tag for your M11x is "ALWM17X". The inscription on your nametag maybe, but not your service tag.

No, i think you're confusing this with the M17x section. You made no indication of what laptop you had, and you posted in the M11x section. My assumptions were valid.

None the less, i stand by my statement, i don't think that is your service tag. It is supposed to be unique to each unit, and the chances of you actually getting that is astronomical.
