Does Dell sell an extra battery fo the M11x ?

Does anyone here have an extra battery that they swap out on the M11x by undoing the screws ?

Is it easy to do ?

    (1) Yes, you can easily replace the battery on the Alienware M11x by unscrewing the bottom panel. It is definitely a user-serviceable part.

    (2) However, you'll have a hard time finding replacement batteries. I can't find them for sale. You might be able to buy one if you talk to the right person at Dell / Alienware, but it doesn't look like a part that is easily found and purchased.

Replacement batteries will probably show up about this time next year. That's pretty common. By that time, the early purchasers of the Alienware M11x R1 will have batteries that are 2-years old. And those batteries will start showing age (decreased charge capacity) if they were left plugged in at 100% charge for most of those 2 years. That is typically when aftermarket replacement batteries start showing up for laptops.

I don't know for certain how much they will cost. But typically, a replacement laptop battery will cost somewhere ~$100 USD for a new OEM-branded battery. A 3rd party generic battery typically costs somewhere in the neighborhood of ~$50 USD.

I got one from Dell as a replacement for my dead/dying old battery. It lost 60% capacity in one week (!) after having it since March.
I'm definitely extending my service contract, because this saved me spending 150$ on a battery!

hasnt got mine yet .. but seems battery is in some thin plastic / card board case and internal so .. seems cell replacement should be an easy opertunity for those who are thrifty with a solder Iron..

    No, no need to solder.

You should take a look to see how easy it is... just unscrew the bottom 8 screws on the bottom panel of your laptop. You don't damage anything or void your warranty by doing it. Once you get the bottom panel off, you'll see how laughably easy it is to replace.

Sorry to rez a topic I just saw this on Google while researching aftermarket batteries.

Batteries are NOT covered by service contract. You get one battery replacement in your first year, that's it.

I don't think it's only one replacement. IIRC they will replace your battery if it fails, as long as it's still within the first year. I've had 2 battery replacements due to some battery issues (ended up being a software issue)

This is one of the things that need to be addressed in future, maybe r4. A external swappable battery instead of removing the backplate and the screws that hold the battery in and uplugging the connector.

They have pills for that you know ;)

One of the first things I did when I got my R3 2 weeks ago was to put in a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT. Much bigger speed boost than I was expecting. As long as you are sensible with how you open it, and don't go and flip it back over before you screw everything in, you will be fine.

I don't consider that much of an issue, I don't even think it's a time consuming thing, since it takes like 1-2m do unscrew to bottom and the battery, then all you have to do is unplug the old one, plug the new one, screw everything back and it's all set, it's not something you will do often generally., unless, you have the need for extra batteries, which a lot of users do, which begs the question, why there aren't any external batteries for the M11x, like there are for several notebooks, including the M17x?

Sure, the battery life on the M11x is superb, while on the M17x is mediocre, but still, this would be a nice acessory for those who are always on the move.

Totally agreed! I would love to have a hot swappable battery on the M11x Aliens.

12 Cell would be great too!

Anyone have any links as to where I can purchase new M11x batteries?

    Cheers. :)
