Every time i try to adjust my settings, the game crashes. Is this a known problem and is there a fix?

EDIT: This is the Steam version so the game is fully patched.

Everything is updated and I just tried the game in compatibility mode. It only crashes when I try to change my Video and Performance settings, particularly while it's trying to detect my system's settings. Otherwise, I can play fine. However, I would like access to my settings just to turn on VSync and max everything out to make the game visually better.

try running it with the integrated graphics. i know there not as good but it will still run fear.
also there might be a way to manually change settings in a .ini file of some sort.

Changing to integrated graphics did the trick. I figure I can change the settings in integrated graphics and just revert back to NVidia. Thanks so much for your help! I've also browsed through the .ini files and couldn't find anything of substance. I found a config file but it didn't house the text for adjusting graphics.
