Some nights I like to lay in bed before I sleep with my M11X and read. However, I've noticed a faint beeping noise that sometimes is a solid tone that's pretty distracting. My M11x is only a few weeks old. I replaced the hdd with an Intel 320 ssd and that's the area where the beeping seems to come from.
I've tried reseating the battery, but that did nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Mine used to make an odd beeping noise that you describe... it was coming through the speakers as some sort of feedback issue. I realised that when it was beeping, the harddrive access light was also flashing... thus it was something to do with my SSD. I updated the firmware on it and hear it very rarely now...
Does yours need an update? -
Thanks for your response. I currently have the latest firmware.

Is the noise very high pitched? There seem to be a lot of threads around the net about people complaining of high pitched noises coming from their SSD drives.
Sometimes the manufacturer knows about these noises, but they are above the standard range of average adult human hearing, so they are not considered a concern. Hearing usually degrades a bit as people age but it can vary quite a bit. I can't use most normal televisions because they emit a very high pitched whine which bothers me, but that other people seem to be unable to hear due to the frequency of the tone involved. I suppose I am lucky (unlucky?) as I am 34 but still hear very high pitched noises from certain electronics which others can not usually pick up. But on average, the younger a person is, the more likely they are to notice these things as their hearing is still quite sensitive to those upper ranges.
I suggest googling a bit on this problem. You could also try contacting your SSD manufacturer and asking about it there.
Here is a handy link for what I searched for on google that came up with some useful hits. Google Search for SSD Squeal From the looks of things according to this search I am glad I did not get an SSD. I hate squeals like that. I hope you are able to solve your issue! =/
Another thing it could be, (I may be way off base with my original thought there) is that the SSD is causing some sort of interference with the other electronics in the laptop and this is being carried over to the speakers, so they output sound even when they are muted. -
Thanks, Zenstrata. It must be the SSD drive then. I was unaware of the issue. However, if this is the case with most SSDs then I will deal with it. It's only an issue when it's really quiet, so I can deal with it.

I don't have SSD but my high pitched sound comes from the fan.
It's getting really annoying now... -
I hear a high pitched noise and sometimes if you get close you can hear it clicking. I have an Intel SSD as well, but I don't know exactly where the sound is coming from. It can be incredibly annoying at times, and I would love to know if there is a way to stop it.
Edit: Okay I have just figured out that some part of the sound is coming from my left speaker, which I'm pretty sure is blown out (at high volumes it makes a crackling/distorted sound). And I think the high pitched sound is coming from the CPU.
Faint Beeping/Solid Noise.
