I just installed this game to check out how the laptop would play it. On native resolution at ultra high detail settings, it is good to play indoors but once you get out to open world I start to have much lower FPS and the occasional hiccups. How are your experiences with this game on this rig so far?

Yeah, youre going to suffer on ultra - however medium to high settings with some AA will let you run it silky smooth.

If you dont mind occasional FPS drops you can run it on high across the board.

There is a Modded .EXE file for Fallout 3 which you can download which makes fallout 3 use all 4gb of your ram (if you got the 4gb or higher system) in which boosts Fallout 3 gaming performance by quite allot as the game does not support higher then 2 because its a 32bit programme :(

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, when I set the setting to medium and put AA at x 4, I get around 60 FPS in open world. Though I still seem to get the hiccups every now and then (by hiccup I mean split second freezes, especially when turning my head around, etc.). I'm thinking whether or not this has anything to do with the dreaded CPU throttling or not.

@Going Viral: Pretty much the same for me, I can get it to run for about 5-10 mins then just locks up. Really annoying.

Download the latest patch. It should fix most to all problems.

People whose games are crashing after 10-15 minutes etc, try the RAM boost fix mentioned above. FO3 isn't designed for 64 bit systems and on many 64 bit systems if it goes above 2GB of RAM it'll just crash.

Mine used to do it all the time, fine now though.

Can't seem to get this to work with the 1.7 patch and/or modified exe. As soon as I start up a new game it begins to load and then crashes.

FO3 on pc is pretty bad, it is really a game to be played on xbox360 or ps3 due to all the glitches, crashes, etc... on pc

Your utterly wrong there. I have owned on both ps3 and now my M11x R1 and it is far superior on the pc. I am running the 3 gig retexture mod with the updated memory fix for the executable along with the Mutant mod and some other more adult content related things and the game is light years better then the console versions. I never crash and the game runs acceptably for me considering the retexture mod puts the games ultra settings to shame for level of detail. Playing on my hdtv through hdmi with a wired 360 controller and I am in heaven! ;) The user made mods can really take this game to the next level...
