I own a R2 and the fan is covered in tar and dust.
My average temps are around 60°C, with nothing open and on power saver.
When playing older games I get up to 95°C. Not wanting to damage my machine I no longer play games.

As I understand it, it is possible to replace the fan.
However I wondered if Ebay is the best play to source it?
Will a fan for the R1 or R3 work?
Do I have to completely dissemble my laptop and get the Mobo out to replace the fan?

    Thanks for ya time!

just open the animal up and clean the bloody heatsink man.

Yes you need to pretty much completely take it apart to undo the heatsink.

What you do is unscrew the fan cover, clean the dust bunnies, blow the rest of dust out, use some de-greaser if you live in a grease rich household, when clean put it back together, though probably replacing the thermal paste is a good idea as well.

Unless fan is BROKEN, just clean the damn thing.

eh? tar? Smoke a lot? If around cigs the only real solution is to smoke in a different room.

I suppose it is possible to clean it. Not sure what other fans will fit
