Anyone know what the oem way of checking cpu or gpu temps are without downloading additional temps? If no such feature was built in without going into bios what programs do u guys use to monitor?

I like this one, RealTemp, for monitoring CPU. It doesn't even need to be installed on your system; it runs like a portable app. I use MSI Afterburner to monitor my GPU temps. MSI needs installing. There's a bunch of other options and there's a thread floating around somewhere here that lists a huge number of them, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Wait a minute, here it is for your reading pleasure.

According to Hwinfo My CPU is at 64c and my GPU is 64c yet the fan stays running and doesn't shut off once it starts... any idea whats up? How can I find out which temp causes the fans to come on?

Just out of curiosity, have you tried cleaning out your machine? Maybe there's dust in there. Are you using a cooling pad, propping up the back of the machine? Which model do you have, R1, 2, or 3?

I have the r3 and tried blowing out with a canister of computer fan cleaner. Some dust came out but it still does it. Lifting up the rear so the fan gets more air doesn't seem to make a difference either. No I dont have a cooling pad.

which port are you connecting the external monitor? i think certain ports use the GPU (HDMI?) vs CPU for the display.
