    Fan turning on during web browsing?

    Hey gang, using an R2, and noticed my fan has been turning on while just web browsing. I just installed 260.99 if that means anything. I checked the nVidia control panel, and it says "none" for GPU activity, so I believe the computer's just using the integrated graphics.

    Any reason my fan should be turning on? Is this normal? If not, what can I do to fix?

    Well the other compenents will still produce heat and thats what makes the fan turn on. The fan turns on at a low level.

    And yes it is normal.

    Yes is normal, is less, but the CPU and the Intel GPU still generate heat, the fan should take longer to turn on, but I have hear it doing normal stuff

    oh and some things on the browser will activate the nvidia card. so that generates heat as well.

    Yeah if you browse for hot p.o.r.n. that will defo make your laptop sweat....

    Make sure that your browsers aren't triggering your nvidia graphics card, especially things like flash videos, youtube, etc. Internet Explorer 9 and those browsers that use hardware rendering will also generate more heat I'm assuming.

    There's an app called NvOptimusTestViewer64.exe and NvGPUStateViewer64.exe that tell you if your card is on and/or what program is using your card, or you can turn on and check nvidia's default optimus notification area.

    I'm actually getting quite worried about my heat problems now...

    I've just been web browsing for the past 20 minutes, and my CPU temperature just went to 59 degrees Celsius! And that AFTER I started using it on my desk, I was using it on my bed for a few minutes.

    Something odd is happening? I'm going to be keeping a close eye on my temperatures.

    If you're using any of the last few nvidia drivers then you have this feature built into the driver now. You simply have to turn it on in the nvidia control panel.
